Dyer Leaves QPR
Dyer Leaves QPR
Tuesday, 8th Jan 2013 11:19

Former Town midfielder Kieron Dyer has left QPR after the Premier League side activated a release clause in his contract. Dyer, 34, moved to Loftus Road in the summer of 2011, shortly after an injury-hit loan spell back with the Blues, his hometown club.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp said: "I'd like to thank Kieron for his services to QPR. If he can stay clear of injuries I'm sure there's clubs out there that will offer him the chance to play football.

"He wasn't in my plans and I think he's got something to offer someone, so we wish him all the best."

Dyer came through the Town academy and was at Portman Road until joining Newcastle United in the summer of 1999 for a fee which eventually rose to £6.5 million.

The midfielder returned home on loan from West Ham in March 2011 but was able to make just one start and three sub appearances.

His time with QPR was similar hampered by fitness issues and he made only four starts, played four games from the bench and scored his only goal in Saturday’s 1-1 FA Cup draw at home to West Brom.

Dyer has said in the past that he would like to finish his career with the Blues, whether Mick McCarthy would be interested in bringing him back to Portman Road for a third spell remains to be seen.

I would rather have Dyer on a play per play deal than some of the potential loan player that we have been linked with. However, I also agree with Michael11 that the emphasis should be on trying to bring through the Hyams, JETs and Hewitts rather than signing lots of here today gone tomorrow loanees.

Steady with the negative comments people, this guy is one of us.

One of only two players (that I know of!) born closer to PR than me, he has sponsered an accadamy side since he left, he would probably play for free and I'd take him over some of the alternatives!

..... thanks, but NO thanks - keep him well away from here please.

If all his injuries have been genuine over the years, then he should have packed the game in long ago, because he is obviously injury prone to the extreme.

Talented - without any shadow of doubt - but wouldn't touch with the proverbial bargepole.

Was the best player I saw in the blue shirt in my 25 years, in his first stint, but that was a long time ago!

Tragic what happened to the boy with injuries and hope he calls it a day and hangs his boots up as dont think theres much left in his tank.

But thanks for the memories mate as you were absolute class and noone on here should say otherwise.

Talbs , I don't think any of us who dont want him back would argue with u about his past with us. He was terrific years ago but that's the trouble, it was years ago and he has done nothing for a long while now and I personally don't think its the sort of signing we need now.

I think we should give him a chance to train with us while he has no club, if Mick likes what he sees then offer him a pay-as-you-play deal til the end of the season - it's not like we have lots of attacking midfielders or wingers is it?????

...... didn't take 'arry long to decide he didn't fit the bill did it ?? - Pay as you Play, or otherwise.
I'm sure MM would show similar interest ...........

Stop being so benevolent some of you ........ not worth it.
