Town will be seeking only their second away league goal of 2013 when they take on Derby at Pride Park tomorrow.

Yet another odd statistic to add to many others in an unprecedented Championship campaign littered with strange results that have combined to make the division tighter than at any stage in its recent history.

For the record, it was Daryl Murphy who scored that solitary away goal, putting Town in front at Bristol City in January, only for the rock-bottom Robins to recover and win the game 2-1.

Town remain the Championship’s lowest goalscorers with 39 in their 40 fixtures to date and they are also bottom of the away goals table having netted a mere 12 in their 20 games on the road.

The clash with the Rams will also be David McGoldrick’s farewell appearance under the terms of his loan from Nottingham Forest and he will be desperate to add to the four goals he has scored in his 12 league games to date.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, who added to McGoldrick’s two-goal contribution with Town’s third in their 3-0 defeat of Leeds at Portman Road last Saturday, acknowledges McGoldrick will be missed.

He said: “It’s a big blow. Didsy is a real threat going forward because he can beat players and get shots in. Without him it might seem like we’re missing a bit of a threat going forward.

“But I think some of the other boys in the team will pose a different kind of threat. His loan deal is up so there’s nothing we can do about it and someone’s got to go in and fill his position.

“I don’t think you can pinpoint exactly what the problem is. I think it just comes down to what happens on the day. It can depend on the type of game it is.

“At Millwall on Monday it was more or less back and forth with no play in the middle. It’s awkward to pinpoint the reason why we have not been able to score as many goals away from home as we have at home.”
