Boss Has Idea Who Will Get New Deals
Thursday, 11th Apr 2013 06:00

Manager Mick McCarthy says he has an idea which of his out-of-contract senior players he wants to keep at the club beyond the end of the season, but is still to talk to any of them regarding new deals.

Lee Martin, Andy Drury, Arran Lee-Barrett and recent signing Jason Brown all have terms which are up in June, while Daryl Murphy, Guirane N’Daw, Richard Stearman, Jay Tabb, Reece Brown, Aaron Mclean and Patrick Kisnorbo are all on loan until the end of the season. David McGoldrick is still at the club despite his 93-day loan being up and is set to sign a two-year deal in the summer.

McCarthy says he has plans in mind: “I’ve got a good idea of who I want to keep and what I want to do, but they’ve also got an idea of what they want to do, and not playing in League One is one of them.

“So, there’s a bit of motivation for them all to pull their finger out — make sure they’re negotiating as Championship players.”

Those negotiations have not yet begun with McCarthy keen to have Town’s survival confirmed before doing so: “I’m not talking to them now.”

The Blues boss has already told youngsters Ronan Murray, Jack Ainsley, Joe Whight, Cormac Burke and Gunnar Thorsteinsson — who is set to sign a two-year deal with Hermann Hreidarsson’s ÍBV in Iceland — that they will not be kept on when their current deals are up in the summer.

McCarthy hopes they’ll ultimately prove him wrong, but warns that he doesn’t recall making too many serious errors of that type: “I’ve not released many that have gone on to embarrass me completely, but I hope they do. I don’t release players who I think are good enough for the team, that’s for sure.

“At their ages and at their time of development, they’ve got to go and play for somebody, whoever it might be.

“Me signing them and sending them out on loan is not right either. You don’t develop as a loan player, you’ve got to go and play somewhere that’s your club, your shirt, where points are played for. Not U21 football, I’m not a fan of the U21 league personally.

“They’ve got to go and play for someone. I’m not bothered where it is, go and play professionally, or even semi-professionally, at any level and have a career at it and play 300 or 400 games and then you’ve been a footballer. That’s my view on it.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy was back at his old club Millwall on Tuesday night to watch the Lions take on Sheffield Wednesday, who the Blues face at Hillsborough a week on Saturday.

I don't mind admitting I had reservations about Stearman but had only seen him play centre back but I would love us to sign him . It will help if Wolves get relegated but think they will survive hence the fee could be a stumbling block. Nouble will stay as Mick rates him as he does Martin but think Martins wage demands may be too high. Would not be heartbroken to see Drury go and McLean has offered little for us to date. Murphy is in the balance for me as he can be so good but his whole demeanour annoys me as at times he looks so lazy. Oh and my usual chestnut we need a another goalkeeper whether it be number 1 or 2. As regards the midfield N'Daw has a presence but is he good enough for a championship promotion side and we really do need a classy creative midfield player. All very interesting but I have huge faith im Mick to get it right.

Yeah I think the four players Danlyles Said he will sign hopefully.
Still need another good striker & a good winger plus another midfielder with a creative spark.
I'm sure we will be ok for next season big Mick knows what he's doing.

Purely waiting to see if the team stay up so the man knows how much money he can spend on wages and transfers.
None of the current players are unworthy of a contract as are all 100 percenters , no Martin for me though as I feel his end product is totally awful.
Judging the correct price and contract are available if be more than happy to watch
Stearman , although I feel Hewitt is ready
N'daw , total class missed by many for some reason
Mcgoldrick , best holding striker since Scowcroft
And as for some moron saying that nouble should go ..... Who are you ? He's a permenant young quick signing that everyone is always asking for you donut

Another reason I doubt MM will offer Murphy, McLean, Martin or Drury contracts is because there are better players out there available on free transfers in the summer.

Would you rather have Darius Henderson or Daryl Murphy up front? The former only signed with Forest til the end of the season and would score loads more goals than Murph but still offer the same physical presence. Just concerned about his off field antics.

McLean vs DJ Campbell?

Martin instead of Chris Burke?

Drury or Lewis Mcgugan?

hopefully wolves go down, so mccarthy can raid the club. Then we can easily sign Stearman, Ebanks-Blake, O'Hara, Hennessey and whoever else he fancies!

If MM takes Martin in hand like he has obviously done with Tommy & Luke then I think the end product will be there. Could spend all day speculating but sure MM already knows what he wants. I just want 6 points from Sat and Tues - not asking for much!

Of the out of contract players, I can only see Martin being offered a (largely reduced) deal. Drury has been disappointing recently.

Think it's important that we try to sign Stearman and McGoldrick. N'Daw is hit and miss in my opinion. Tabb could do a job. I suspect both Brown's and McLean will leave. Murphy is an interesting one. He hasn't scored enough for me, but Mick likes him.

I would Keep:
Murphy, Mcgoldrick and Stearman.

The rest I would be that bothered if they went.
NDaw is ok but lacks creativity, Tabb is another anchor defensive player, playing out of position and as for Martin a big let down, his on big money and another Keane poor buy.

Drury was playing well last season, not sure whats happen to him, probably on low wages, might be worth a 1 year deal.

Hopeful Wordsworth can push on, Maybe try Taylor on left of midfield where he sometimes played for Posh. Would like to see a quick winger brought in and another creative play maker in the middle. If we are to push on next year.

Lee Martin bursting through the centre ......................oh, the move has broken down ..........again. One thing is hard work the second is actually doing something meaningful and he doesn't. Mick is no mug and can see right through this. Cheerio.

Who ever goes and who ever stays one things for certain we should be optimistic for next season. I will be there every step of the way supporting the men in blue shirts. ( or white ones)

I would look to keep McGoldrick, Stearman, Tabb, Murphy and possibly N'Daw.
The others I don't think are vital.
Whoever he wants, I trust Mick to go for the right men, whether he gets them though will be dependent on FPP and greed of players/agents

I'd let Martin, Chopra and Drury go - they aren't the future of the club.
Of the loans I'd say McGoldrick and Tabb (but I would like to see how he plays for the rest of the season before making a decision). N'Daw & Murphy if we could get these two back on season loans (nothing less).
In needs to come Steadman, McGoldrick and a good goalkeeper (signed) + a creative wide man and a goal scorer.

I'd really hope he signs McGoldrick, Stearman, N'Daw and Tabb.

I like Drury and Martin but for me, we need more from our midfielders, more goals and creation and for me these 2 fall slightly short so I would let them go.

Dont know about Brown and lets face, he will be a reserve and McLean I would let go as he's not done enough.

Of course the great thing about football is its all about opinions.
