Pompey: We've Spoken to Grant But He Might Join Ipswich
Tuesday, 25th Jun 2013 15:55

Portsmouth assistant boss Steve Allen has revealed that the League Two side have spoken to Wycombe Wanderers winger Joel Grant this summer, but says the 25-year-old may join Town. A fortnight ago, TWTD revealed that Grant is amongst the Blues’ summer targets.

Allen said: “We met Joel Grant of Wycombe, he hasn’t gone anywhere yet but he might end up going to Ipswich.”

Speaking yesterday, Blues boss Mick McCarthy, who is notorious for playing his cards close to his chest regarding his targets, played down his interest in Grant and Blackpool defender Kirk Broadfoot, who is also out of contract this summer.

Wycombe were back for pre-season training today but Grant is not understood to have returned to the League Two club.

Perhaps notably, the Chairboys have completed the signing of former Plymouth winger Paris Cowan-Hall.

I haven't seen him play.

I am all for looking for talent in the lower leagues, especially when he's out of contract and young.

It's just a shame that we haven't grown our own.

whittonite(and others), going on about wanting to get these deals done quickly. no1 whos on a free, "out of contract", can actually sign prior to july 1st. so youre not gonna hear nething by Thursday whittonite. and before ne1 points out that mcgoldrick and skuse are already here? yes, but technically, they could still sign for other teams if they wanted to as they also wont have signed for us officially yet neither

I Think he'll be a good signing for the club, we need a winger, and he's got a bit of pace, which is what Town have partly been lacking in a little bit over the last couple of seasons!

I would be happy if we don,t spend a penny in transfer fees this summer, or break our budget on wages. We are not a big money club and I for one am glad. If I wanted to follow a team that bought success then I would be a fan of one of the 'Big Boys'. I love the fact that we punch above our weight. Alf Ramsey's teams were built from unknowns. Robson's from youth and unknowns. Burley's from youth and lower league players.
I don't think I would be anywhere near as proud if that success had been achieved with riches
