Swap Deals "Notoriously Difficult"
Wednesday, 3rd Jul 2013 15:12

Bristol City managing director Jon Lansdown says swap deals such as the proposed exchange of Town’s Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Robins winger Paul Anderson are notoriously difficult transfers to complete.

Speaking in an interview with City’s official website, Lansdown said: “I don’t think there’s anything to add at this stage. It’s been widely reported that we have an interest in Jay and Ipswich have an interest in Paul.

“But swap deals are notoriously difficult because you’ve essentially got four parties that have to agree on something and it’s very rare that that all comes together at once.

“It’s been quite widely reported that there is interest and that’s accurate but it still takes a lot to get something like that over the line. There’s nothing really to add to what’s already been said.”

He dismissed claims that Emmanuel-Thomas, who didn't travel to Ireland with the rest of the Town squad on Monday, had held talks at Ashton Gate earlier in the week: “That isn’t accurate.

"The fact that there is interest from both sides and both players may well be accurate but in terms of anything imminent, there’s nothing.”

Meanwhile, released Sunderland defender Matt Kilgallon, who is understood to have held talks with the Blues earlier in the summer, is reported to be in advanced discussions with Blackburn Rovers, who were first mentioned as one of the other interested parties a month ago.

Elsewhere, Doncaster Rovers have confirmed the signing of ex-Brentford midfielder Harry Forrester, who was watched by Town boss Mick McCarthy last season.

To all those moaning about our apparent lack of funds, the moans about other teams spending this and blah blah blah.... i have one thing to say, the best and most successful teams that we have enjoyed down the years have not been developed around massive spending....FACT.

3 players leaving/ made available for transfer have been players we have invested big money on(by our standards).

Let mm do his job and lets se what happens.....coyb

I agree with Dissboy to some degree and remain fairly positive because MM, TC and their scouts have a track record of unearthing talent others weren't looking at and I genuinely can't see ME giving big Mick a £1 million bonus to then see us struggle the following season. There will be signings I am sure ....but then at the same time I have a slight concern that we may be relying on the fact there'll be lots of released players accepting reduced wages rather than having an actual recruitment strategy and we may therefore end up with journeymen rather than young hungry players for the future (Forrester (chris), Pack et al). Other than Judge to date I am not too concerned about who we have missed out on (e.g. Grant) but we do need two wide players, a creative midfielder (i.e. Pack?) and a strong versatile defender (i.e. Stearman).

This one is dragging out! Hopefully its resolved soon!

Kilgallon is a solid defender but looks like he is going Blackburn, no idea why anyone would want to go to that club while its still in a dreadful state.

just in reply to comments about MM having no money to spend and a season of doom ahead. Can we take a look at the success of our recent big money buys? - Priskin, Martin, Chopra, Leadbitter, Bullard and compare those to the freebies/ low fees such as Cresswell, Hewitt, Nouble.
Who says spending big is the answer?!
