Chopra Glad to Be Where He's Wanted
Friday, 26th Jul 2013 17:28

Former Blues striker Michael Chopra says he’s glad to be at a club where he’s wanted, having joined Blackpool from Town earlier in the week. The 29-year-old has signed a one-year deal with an option for another season.

Chopra told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I'm at a club where I'm wanted. It's nice to be wanted again.

"The manager is looking to bring a couple more players in and if we can get the right balance, this club is going places.”

The former Cardiff, Sunderland and Newcastle man says his well-documented problems with gambling will always be the subject of discussion: "No matter what I do, it's always going to be in the spotlight.

"It's down to me to do well on the pitch. If I'd been scoring on a regular basis for Ipswich, nobody would talk about it. It's down to myself to make sure it doesn't happen again.

"With the gambling, I still go to meetings and that's an ongoing process. The main thing for me is that I'm at a football club where I'm going to be playing and I'm made to feel welcome and wanted.”

He says he expects to receive good service while with the Seasiders: "You've got Thomas Ince and also Matty Phillips to come back when he's fit.

"The manager [Paul Ince] is looking to bring a couple more players in and if we can get the right balance, this club is going places.

"When you're playing with good players, you know you'll get a lot of chances to score goals. I believe that if I get the chances, I will score goals. I've done that all my life."

He's gone, good! Let's move on and forget about him as now I couldn't care less what he does, easily my least favourite player and such a disappointment after feeling so enthusiastic about hs signing in the first place, he turned out to be one of the most disappointing signings of all of our 'disaster' signings under the Keane/Jewell years.

Watch him go downhill now at Blackpool. He'll get a few games at the start, then be dropped for a non-defined 'injury' and will then become a perennial sub. The bloke is a waster, with money, his talents, his self-dignity and his pettiness.

The only player in a while who has slagged us on leaving. Good riddance. Not fit to lick our great club's boots.

Continue to behave like a grade A prat and you wont be wanted for long. Gauranteed to be at a different club come the start of the 14/15 season.

Please Phil can this be the last ever Chopra story on TWTD - Let's move on as he is someone else's problem now and giving him column inches feeds his ego.

So much more postive ITFC news to focus on

People on here should know some of the facts:

He came back from pre- season (last summer) 19 on the bleep test - ask any footy coach that is phenomenal, so no unprofessionalism there

Scored early at Watford, getting the winner = 3 valuable points

But played up front on his own in a very poorly managed side & inevitably like the rest of the team, lost form.

Then didn't help himself with silly Twitter comments - although the bag of cash pic was most likely taken out of context?! (Probably a pic from Google! - he is skint through gambling remember!)

But a disruptive influence in the changing room - where is the evidence of that? - MM also said he trained well & was fine.

However, silly comments about being 'wanted' - every Town fan wanted him here until he gave attitude on Twitter. He needs to take a long look at himself & not disrespect the majority of decent ITFC fans, who supported him through it all.

Like another poster said, lets show our class & give him a rousing reception when he appears at PR. Make him realise how he has let us down & what a great club he has lost out on. We are ITFC & proud.

Warkys_Tash, I really like the sentiment behind the rousing reception idea, & showing him we are the fans he should have bust a gut to be playing for, but I'm just not sure I could bring myself to do it! I am always happy to acknowledge past players & managers for their efforts, even if their time at our club wasn't the most successful, but I just can't muster a reception for him..... (Like I refused to insure my car with Aviva, even though they were nearly £20 cheaper!!!)

No more Chopra and Jet ! Well pleased with that. C.O.Y.B.

A rousing reception should always be for past players who have served the club with distinction, not for the likes of chopra! He did score some important goals, but let's not forget it was his job and he was paid very handsomely for them. Chopra needs to grow up, he clearly has no class, we can show our class by ignoring him and that is the correct thing to do , he is no longer a part of town.

So please no more talk of warm receptions, it would devalue our appreciation and recognition for past players who really deserve it....COYB

Just think. . . All those one armed bandits along the sea front. Just limit yourself to the 2p a go machines chops, and you'll be fine.

Give it 3/4 months, once you slagged off the Blackpool fans, scored no goals and you won't be wanted for long. For once, keep your trap shut.

You were wanted here you berk, you just never bothered to turn up, despite all the help that the club gave you. You will be lucky if a div 2 club will take you on when you have finished sitting on the bench at Blackpool. If you couldn't get your head right here it won't happen anywhere else.

@ Warkys_Tash - true he did start in a poor Ipswich team under PJ but did he improve under MM? the answer no. He did score some important goals but let's face it he was bound to get the odd one or two.

Not 'every' Town supporter wanted him here that's nonsense, on paper through his past he looked good but at 27 his best days and goal scoring records I felt were always going to be behind him particularly as his heady Premiership days were all to distant.

As the other poster mentioned through his stats he really isn't that good any more, saw him several times last year and not only does he look diminutive in size but also that his legs were starting to go.

Bye bye Michael and no nasty twittering about us either.

One thing missing in report and mentioned in EADT that he will be moving his family to Blackpool area.Dont know why he didnt move them here, although says it was a long way from Newcastle.
This should help his performance on the field, but hope Smithy,Chambo or Christophe Berra can take care of him on 9th November.

@TimmyH, what is 'nonsense' is your comment with hindsight that you thought he wouldnt be any good when he signed - you had no idea his best days were behind him, along with everyone else & to say not every fan wanted him, you have taken my point to the extreme. So ok, let's not be pedantic 99% of Town fans were excited he signed, just like they were when Bullard did - lets not split hairs!

Let's just put it this way when you've played in the Premiership then gone down a division played for Cardiff and scored 9 league goals in the season before coming to us in 2011 for 1M there is a distinctive pattern.

not half as glad as i am that he has gone.Be interesting to see what crap he serves up for his new club .If he were to sail around coast to Blackpool i reckon the sighs of relief from Ipswich would get him there in record time .

After is 'tapping up' Ipswich for a £250,000 'loan' to stop the bigger boys breaking his legs while at PR.
His new club Blackpool are sponsored by.....Wonga.com!

A positive player when he arrived at Town but lost his way during the end of his first season and not helped when on the beach for the majority of the second season. A tad unlucky at Ipswich, but good luck at blackpool

Seems a tad insensitive to the player's problems that the story should be sponsored by William Hill..........
