McCarthy: Ando Different Class
Tuesday, 3rd Dec 2013 06:01

Boss Mick McCarthy says midfielder Paul Anderson has been “different class” since becoming a regular in the side in September.

The summer signing from Bristol City has made 12 starts and three sub appearances for the Blues but is yet to complete a full 90 minutes in the league.

“I didn’t even know that,” McCarthy said. “He’s been different class, Ando. He works his bollocks off when he’s on, that’s why.

“If I need somebody to shore it up and we’re in front, it’s always the poor old wingers who get the hook, it always was and always is.

“He’s fine, he’s fit as a flea, Ando. I have to say he puts a shift in over and above, you should watch him and just take notice of how much he works, tucks in, gets back out, chases the full-back.

“He’s been great, I’m delighted with him. I didn’t know he hadn’t finished a game. I better leave him on, hadn’t I?”

Anderson’s remarkable blue moustache was marked 10 out of 10 by the Daily Mail, which named him the ‘winner’ of Movember.

McCarthy says the 25-year-old fully deserved the accolade: “I should think he did! I notice it’s gone now though.”

The Town boss joined in the club’s Movember exploits and plans to stick with the bearded look “Well, it’s still here, isn’t it? I kinda like it.”

Queue the minus marks but i have to agree that some of the criticism Anderson gets is unfair.
Agreed he hasnt set the world alight and doesnt fly past the full-back and whip crosses in.....however, and IMO this is the key point, both Anderson himself and MM have publicly stated that MM has told him play "tucked in".
So to criticise a player who is simply doing what his manager is telling him to do is extremely harsh.
Without a doubt he runs his socks off and has chipped in with a couple of goals and has great delivery. As others mentioned he can play a decent pass too, as demonstrated on Saturday in the first minute.
I would like to see him impose himself on games a bit more , but overall i think he has done ok.
I think we may now see that role split between him and Graham over the next few weeks depending on the opposition and whether or not we need to be on the front foot or shutting up shop.

Not one for player bashing but, Mick not knowing that Anderson's been taken off says it all for me!

@will09 - has to make you think why the hell Mick has him on the pitch in the first place 1, largely out of position on the right 2, Having to work more to cover for Chambers (not a right back) but isn't it a fact that Mick seems to want 3 of our 4 midfielders for 'heavy' cover duty of our defense which he hasn't done at neither of his previous clubs?
Really not good enough of what I've seen of him, Forest didn't want him nor Bristol City who were relegated - should tell you a lot!

TimmyH - thats not so, Bristol City wanted to keep him if you remember , and actually came out and said as much, however they really wanted JET and Anderson wanted to come here.
People are more than entitled to their opinions, but my biggest bugbear on here is people quoting incorrect information.

@Dozzells - ok fine mate if I have that wrong about him wanting to come here, but did we want him so badly that JET was made available for a swap deal? could have done business else where.

Timmy - could have done business elsewhere possibly yes, but MM obviously wanted PA. My point was i think its harsh to criticise him when he is only following MM's instructions.
Having said all that Edwards did ok last night so i would leave him in on Saturday.
