Players Pull Out of Nigeria Friendly
Tuesday, 8th Jan 2002 14:35

Finidi George's Nigerians have pulled out of a friendly with Egypt scheduled for today due to money owed to them after they qualified for the World Cup back in August.

The players allege that $70,000 is due to them from individual and corporate cash relating to their World Cup qualification. Manager Shuaibu Amodu has also not been paid for five months.

Mr Dominic Oneya, the chairman of the Nigerian FA said: "This is news to me. I thought the monies have been long paid. This is bad for our preparations. I have held talks with the players and they assured me they would do their best in Mali [in the African Nations' Cup]. We will sort out the problems as soon as possible. They have a valid case and I am determined to look into it."

Nigeria now have just one friendly ahead of the beginning of the African Nations' Cup, against the Ivory Coast on January 12th.
