Taylor: Hewitt "Superb"
Saturday, 18th Jan 2014 20:28

Gillingham manager Peter Taylor described Town loanee Elliott Hewitt’s performance as “superb” after the Gills beat Swindon 2-0 at home in League One this afternoon. The Wales U21 international was playing his first game since returning to the Priestfield Stadium, his initial spell having been curtailed by an ankle injury at the end of November.

"Elliott Hewitt was superb today in his first game since Stevenage. We worked hard as a team and we deserved it," Taylor said.

Town’s other player on loan at Gillingham, striker Jack Marriott, was an unused sub and is yet to make his debut for the Kent side. Hewitt has now made four appearances across his two spells.

Elsewhere, on-loan right-back Freddie Veseli played the full 90 minutes and picked up a booking in the final moments as Bury drew 0-0 with Burton Albion at Gigg Lane. The former Swiss U21 international has now made three appearances for the Shakers.

Academy second-year scholar Rory Thompson was in the Haverhill Rovers side which lost 1-0 at Gorleston in the Thurlow Nunn Premier DIvision. The defender started at right-back but moved further forward on the hour, before being subbed in the 80th minute.

.Debate........First of all I think Smith and Chambers should be back in the centre of the back four, with Cresswell and Hewitt as the wing backs. It worked well last season so why change it.at the moment our midfield is just not there.Skuse is fine but I don't think he and Hyam can play together.Tunnicliffe is ok but not the answer.so where do we go from there. We need a quality wide man with pace, and a player with vision who can play a defence splitting pass.McG could play in midfield with Murphy and SEB when fit up front, but really the owner needs to invest a little.OK I understand the rules, but a small investment could make a big difference.Nevertheless MM has done a great job with very little cash.We will never be as good as the teams under RBI and GB,but we just have to get behind the club .Things I'm sure will get better.COYB.

Still think Hewitt could do a decent job on the right wing for us..would be much better than the very average Anderson.

Gillingham play at Bretford Friday night, live on Sky. Chance to see Hewitt and hopefully Jack will get on.

Here we go with the negative votes - but I assume Jack is training with the squad at Gillingham and not YET shouting "pick me" to the manager?? Maybe he doesn't suit their system in which case admit the mistake and send him back !
