Blues Amongst Clubs Linked With Brayford
Monday, 20th Jan 2014 16:57

Town are reported to be amongst a host of clubs showing interest in recruiting Cardiff City right-back John Brayford on loan during the January transfer window. AFC Bournemouth, Blackpool and Sheffield United have also been linked with the 26-year-old former Derby man.

Stoke-born Brayford started his career with Burton Albion, during which time he won England C caps, then moved on to Crewe Alexandra before his old Brewers boss Nigel Clough took him to Pride Park in the summer of 2010.

Last June, 6ft tall Brayford, who has also played at the centre of the defence and at left-back, joined Cardiff for £1.5 million but he has made only two Capital One Cup appearances since joining the Bluebirds and was reportedly close to rejoining the Rams on loan in September.

Town boss Mick McCarthy is keen to add to his defensive options during the transfer window and a move for an experienced right-back such as Brayford would be no surprise.

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee DJ Campbell has joined Saturday's opponents Millwall on loan from Blackburn.

Meanwhile, a Town U17 side lost 3-1 to Colchester in a friendly on a local school's 4G Astroturf pitch on Saturday, the scheduled academy league games having been called off.

We need a proper right back in place before Saturday and get Smith and Chambers reunited in the middle. Which goal keeper to play on Saturday out of a poor pair we seem to have I really don't know now!

Allegedly on £15k a week at Cardiff so i suppose it will come down to who is prepared to pay most of his wages!

Good player and feel we do need a proper right back, although Chambers has done well, he is out of position.

However, we desperately need to improve the midfield. You could also argue the need for a partner for McGoldrick ... As Mick seems reluctant to play Taylor up front.

forget the back four we need to clear out the entire strike force, without DM's 11 goals the other 5 strikers have yet to get into double figures. cash in on DM he can't run.

Good player for sure but cant help but think he looks like someone has photo-shopped Jay Tabbs head onto John Hartsons face?

nc41 lol, It is our midfield that needs a major overhaul we need goals from the centre of the pitch as well as our strikers.

A distinct lack of pace has become apparent in the team after our good run ended, whatever the stats say about ground covered being the best in the league etc etc we are lacking the cutting edge from a-z and being so predictable again is not helping, once again(as in my previous post) it's over to you Marcus give Mick a hand and let him add to a very small squad it is needed more than ever now or the promise we have shown(up until the last 2 weeks) will be turned into mid table boredom, every other team is doing some business why not us????????

Hmmm; with Chambers, Hewitt and Vesali I thought we had the right-back slot covered.

Ipswichbusiness i totally agree. Hewitt has made one mistake so far and has been dropped like a stone. He was only gonna get better, hes quick, tall, good on the ball, and likes to overlap his winger and get crosses in................oh....theres the problem........

Would be a brilliant acquisition - even if cover for Chambo... After all we don't want to be in the list of teams who didn't bring in any players this transfer window. Also this would enable Hewitt to stay out on loan for longer and improve.

agree with Ipswichbusiness

we have just loaned out a good young right back in elliot hewitt who seemingly played a blinder at the weekend and verseli as well.

how much better can this lad really be-certainly not enough to make a differance-it all seems very strange

He will only come here if Cardiff pay all his wages

Decent little player but not a priority.

Our midfield three of Hyam,Skuse & Tunnicliffe have 1 (yes ONE) goal between them..i'm sorry, but that's pathetic.

We need more from the midfield Mick!..someone who'll get the crowd on their feet when he gets the ball and can worry opposition defences.

Put the thinking cap on Mick.

Play Hewitt at RB simple he did nothing wrong and get Smith and Chambers nack in the middle as I feel Chambers is wasted at RB

Getting a quality right back is a need for us. Who can defend as well as attack like Cresswell! I like Chambers as a ITFC man, his spirit and fight for the club... BUT he is not the quality of Berra and would struggle to get his position back!!! Berra is also playing out of position he is the left sided player. GOOD options for McCarthy and great fight for positions needed from the players.

Why not play Mings at LB and move Cressy to the left-wing. At least its something different, should give us more attacking options than Tunners/Tabb and doesn't cost us a penny.

Sorry, but why lend Hewitt out when we need him. He is our best choice at right back and will be good so play him.

The problem with having Hewitt in the team is that it means we have two attacking full backs. Unless we switch to three at the back then it leaves the defence very vulnerable. Personally I think the best team is Gerken in goal (for now), the three central defenders of Chambers, Smith and Berra. Hewitt and Cresswell marauding down the wings (Edwards and Mings as cover). Two from Skuse, Hyam or Tunnicliffe in the middle. Taylor in a deeper role as an attacking midfielder. Murphy as a target man but dropping deeper - not the prettiest role but he's hardworking enough. McGoldrick up front doing what he does best, perhaps with slightly less need for him to drop as deep as he often plays.

I think this works slightly better as we'll have seven players defending and up to five players attacking (counting the wing backs as doing both). It's the same formation Burley used when he was the gaffer.

BlueIrish, I like your thinking, why not play Cressy left wing as he has 10 goal assists already and would be a threat going forward.

Marcus, the point about having Smith and Chambers together in central defence is that they kept a lot of clean sheets. Having Hewitt at RB would provide an extra attacking dimension down the right, injecting some pace and urgency to the team something the team has lacked.

I think I would keep Gerken in goal for now.

Why do we need another Right Back in the squad when we've got 3 players who play in that position already!? For me, the team is crying out for a strong central midfielder, a player with some kind of goal scoring pedigree (I know this is a lot to ask for a potential loanee) The clubs finances should be used to employ a central midfielder not another defender right now!

pointless loan, why not just keep Hewitt in the first place like i said a while ago and let him have a good run in the team.
such silly management.

FFS we need to recall Hewitt and marriot from Gillingham get in a decent No1 goalkeeper and a creative midfielder who can score a goal or two, lets face it our midfielders couldn,t hit a barn door from five yards.............coyb
