McCarthy Confirms Richardson Signing
Saturday, 25th Jan 2014 17:57

Boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that Middlesbrough right-back Frazer Richardson is joining the Blues on loan until the end of the season.

McCarthy said: “He’s here, I’m delighted with that, even more so because Nigel Adkins said to me before the game ‘Well done on getting Frazer, he’s a fabulous kid’. He had him for two or three seasons at Southampton.

“I’ve known him a long time, we tried to sign him from Leeds when I was at Sunderland. He’s only 31, he’s out of contract at the end of the year, so he’s with us until the end of the season.

“He wants to get a contract somewhere, it’s fabulous for us and he’s a top lad, I’m delighted with him.

“He knows the score, he’s come down, he knows Chambo’s playing and he wants to come and fight for a slot, which is great for a pro at 31. Fantastic. He’ll be available on Tuesday at Leeds.”

Was a fan of his while he was at Leeds, a very decent attacking full back who I thought could play in a more advanced position. Myabe one more addition before the window closes to push on and challenge for a playoff spot would be nice, up the Town!

The more I think about this the more I like it. A shrewd acquisition for Town. We now have excellent cover across the back. Now should anyone get injured, sent-of or have a drop in form, everyone to their right can slide over and Richardson drops into the right back position.

Not so sure about next season though, surely Hewitt is the way forward rather than a 31 year old. But this just highlights the constraints that MM is working under. I don't suppose there are many gifted 20 year olds coming out of contract in the summer!

Bluebongo

It was just a copy from what happened in the Arsenal v Coventry game, when some of their floodlights went out.
