Town Keen on Tunnicliffe Return
Friday, 21st Feb 2014 11:12

TWTD understands that Town are keen to bring former loanee Ryan Tunnicliffe back to Portman Road. The 21-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan with the Blues from Manchester United but was recalled close to the end of the January transfer window and sold to Fulham.

Since then, the midfielder has started the last two Cottagers’ games, a 2-2 draw with Manchester United and a 3-2 home defeat to Liverpool, but the manager who brought him to Craven Cottage, his former Old Trafford mentor René Meulensteen, has been sacked.

New boss Felix Magath may be less inclined to field the inexperienced Tunnicliffe as he tried to keep the bottom-of-the-table Londoners in the Premier League and at a press conference yesterday suggested his squad was too big: “If we have too many players, then we have too many influences.”

Town look in need of central midfield cover in the short-term with Luke Hyam out for around a fortnight with the hamstring injury he suffered in the game against Blackpool, while manager Mick McCarthy may also want to increase the competition in his midfield in the final months of the campaign.

Tunnicliffe joined Town on a six-month loan in August and had his loan extended until the end of the season at the start of January before being recalled in order to make his move to Fulham.

The former England U16 and U17 international made 24 starts and five sub appearances for the Blues without scoring.

He gave 100% effort whilst he was here, with little return in regards of contibuting to goals from midfield, so if this story has any truth in it, would Green have to make way or would it be Hyam that takes the back seat as they are in much of a similar mould?
Like others I would rather us bring in someone with a more attacking midfieider role.
I don't think that the comments coming out of PR, like we have a midfield that's ok are strictly good enough.
I have always been an admirer of SEB, but big question marks hang over him, can he reproduce the form he undoubtabley had when at Wolves. I really hope so. We have to have patience with him, even the great Messi said it would take him ten games to get back to the form he had before his recent injury.
We have seen so many players get serious injuries and then are unable to get that edge back.
Lets all hope we come away tomorrow with a better result than last seasons drubbing, not so much so that we can keep in touch with that play off place, but more to restore some confidence in the side after results against low placed opposition, COYB's.

Surco72 - .... that's a great suggestion BUT the danger would be that he would score goals for us - MM believes the Goal is something you defend - not aim at, unless absolutely necessary. LOL - but only just.
