Williams Wants to Stay and Play
Wednesday, 26th Mar 2014 13:01

On-loan Crystal Palace midfielder Jonny Williams has reiterated that he’d like to extend his spell with the Blues beyond Saturday’s home game against Nottingham Forest. The 20-year-old’s initial month at Portman Road is up after Forest’s visit.

Speaking in an interview in Saturday’s match programme, the Welsh international, who netted a superb first goal for the Blues in last night’s 2-1 victory over Derby with Palace boss Tony Pulis in the crowd, said he’s up for lengthening his stay in Suffolk.

“If everything is right for me, Ipswich and Crystal Palace then I don’t see why the loan can’t be extended,” he said.

“I will be having a chat with both managers to see what the prospects are of me extending the loan. We will see what happens when that comes around but I’d like to stay at Ipswich if everyone is happy for me to do so.”

Williams says he’s enjoying playing first-team football with the Blues: “I’d rather help Ipswich try and get into the play-offs, playing competitive games than playing U21 matches for Palace.

“My long-term future is there [Palace] and my dream is to play in the Premier League, but right now I’m getting games under my belt here at Ipswich, working under Mick McCarthy and most importantly, I’m enjoying myself here.”

Although 5pm on Thursday is the deadline for Football League clubs to register new emergency loans, existing deals such as Williams’s can be extended after that for up to a maximum of 93 days.

Palace could well be relegated soon. If we could keep him until the end of the season, we could still make him an Ipswich player. Similar size clubs, playing in the same league but he was given a chance here and might feel more part of our club if he until May.

Williams, little in stature, but great in skill and heart. He got knocked down again and again, but picked himself up again and again, and then fired home a terrific goal that set us up for a great victory. Also thankyou Big Frank N, you were awesome when introduced, you now have the crowd on your side and not on your back.

Has, has been said many times, the decision sits squarely with Tony Pulis and CP. All we can hope is, that MM does his usual low key negotiations and pulls a rabbit out the hat and we manage to keep hold of the player for the rest of the season. I'd like to say looking beyond this season, what an acquisition he would be if he came up for sale and ME provided the funds. we can all dream!!!

Absolute class, thanks for the entertainment Johnny. I hope you have a long career, you have every attribute a top player has. Despite the Derby hatchet men, they tried but couldn't keep you down.

I hope you keep entertaining us for the remainder of this season.
