Skipper Luke Chambers has summed up the mood of optimism sweeping through Portman Road right now by admitting the games can’t come round quickly enough.

Town’s next challenge comes in the shape of tomorrow’s visit from a Leeds team likely to be high on confidence following their shock 2-0 victory over leaders Derby at Elland Road last weekend.

Chambers, 29, admitted: “When you’re playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, you’re looking for the next break. But for the last few weeks it’s been Saturday, Saturday, and we’re like ‘We want to be playing on the Tuesday’.

“The boys are happy and have been buzzing for a while now. I think teams look at where they are after the first 10 games and if you’re in a decent position everyone’s happy.

“We’re 19 games in now and sitting second so we’re very, very buoyant at the minute and we’re going to continue to be like that.

“We’ve won four out of the last five and drawn the other one so we’ve got every right to be confident but we know it’s going to be a difficult game on Saturday because they are always a difficult team to play against and they had a great result at the weekend.

“Derby had been flying so it tells you they are going to be a difficult team to play. If they can beat Derby they are a good team, it’s as simple as that.”

Even if Leeds’ off-the-field woes were extended this week when Italian owner Massimo Cellino was disqualified from owning the club by the Football League and asked to resign, Chambers doubts it will impact on the team.

He added: “I don’t really believe these things filter down to the pitch unless he’s been in the dressing room getting involved.

“Yes, he will have brought players into the club that he knows but Neil Redfearn, the manager, will know what to put up against us to give them the best chance of winning.

“Players tend to just get on with playing and once the kick-off comes round that’s what they will be concentrating on. People might try to make excuses but they’ll be buzzing after the win over Derby and excited about the prospect of beating the next best.”
