Parr: We've Put Ourselves in a Great Position
Tuesday, 30th Dec 2014 06:00

Jonny Parr has underlined Town’s determination to capture one of the top two automatic promotion places and return to the Premier League after a 13-year absence.

Parr has featured in the starting line-up in the last two league games and despite the return to fitness of Tyrone Mings will be hoping to make it three games in a row at left-back against Charlton at Portman Road tonight.

The Norwegian international said: “We have had two good wins against two good teams, Middlesbrough and Brentford, who are challenging alongside us for promotion.

“We have been in great form over the last couple of months, or even longer, and we just want to keep it going for as long as possible.

“We have had different players coming in, myself included, so everyone has played their part. We all want to be in the team and contributing, helping us to keep on picking up points, and it will be the same all the way through to the very last game.

“Taking points off Middlesbrough and Brentford has obviously strengthened our position. It always helps when you have good results against your closest rivals and we have Derby at home very soon.

“It’s really tight at the top of the table and all we want to do is to carry on picking up points and at the end of the season see how far we have come.”

Parr believes the fact that Town have climbed into second spot following a run of just one defeat in 19 league games cannot have escaped anyone’s attention and if they were at one stage looking to remain under the radar those days are definitely over.

He added: “In the last month people have seen we are really serious contenders for automatic promotion. They can see we are in there fighting for one of the top two places and it might lead to some teams playing differently against us, trying to make it more difficult for us.

“But if we keep on playing as well as we have been doing we will still be winning games and picking up points.

“We are one of the teams that the others are chasing but I personally don’t feel we are under more pressure than we were before.

“We want to be in the top two spots and we have put ourselves in a great position. I would much rather be there than being a lot of points behind and trying to catch up. Our aim now is to keep the momentum going.”

They say that you shouldn't change a winning team. I would start with Parr at left back, once we are 2-0 and in control, bring Mings on for a little match fitness training.
