Taylor Training With Blackburn
Monday, 2nd Mar 2015 11:31

Out-of-favour Town striker Paul Taylor is training with Blackburn Rovers and could join the Lancashire side on loan.

The 27-year-old hasn’t returned to the Blues since ending his loan spell at Rotherham in January with manager Mick McCarthy having told him to stay away and to find a new club.

“He’s not coming back and his agent’s been dealing with it. It’s with him and Paul. He’s not coming back, full stop,” McCarthy said in January.

Taylor, who is understood to be the club’s highest-earning player on around £10,000 a week, is out of contract at the end of the season.

The Liverpudlian joined the Blues from Peterborough in the summer of 2012 for an initial fee of £1.5 million, which could ultimately have risen to £2.5 million.

He made only nine starts and 16 sub appearances for Town, scoring one goal, and missed almost a year of football due to a toe injury.

Rovers have scope to make a couple of additions to their squad despite being under a Financial Fair Play embargo with former Town loanee Bradley Orr's contract having been terminated by mutual consent.

Orr, who was with the Blues between November 2012 and Janaury 2013, making 13 appearances, has announced his retirement from football.

Funny reading comments about how useless Taylor is. When he was with the squad, people on here were complaining because he wasn't playing.......... how times change. i do agree he was a total waste of money and always did from the start.

Bullard really? First 6 months on loan he saved us from relegation, remember that?

Lead bitter really? I would take him back now, best passer we had in midfield by far. Infact if Mick had him & Norris at his disposal we would be flying even higher

Agree about Leadbitter he was always the best player in the pitch in his first season then got dragged down somewhat by the useless managers at the time. Would not be in the Boro team now is he was no good and yes I would welcome him back.

Taylor has electric pace. I'd still rather have him come off the bench than some of our other options, but it has to overlook the bad attitude aspect. I think players with pace are great to impact games with around 20 or 30 minutes to go. I would rather inject some pace in the team to unsettle tired legs and full backs than sending in a big 1-dimensional unit such as Connor Sammon! Pace kills! I've played full back on several occassions against players with ligthening pace and nothing is worse than a player that just wants to run in behind you, it scares the life out of you lol! I've watched a video of Paul Taylor on YouTube and he looked an absolute handful, although his finishing wasn't great. Ok it was down a division but Sears seems to have stepped up ok. If Taylor isn't the option then we need somebody else who has pace to go with Sears. When you are struggling to unlock defences in critical matches pace can make all the difference, just look at Ronaldo, although I am in no way comparing Taylor to Ronaldo lol! :-)

I meant it's hard to overlook the bad attitude respect, that is his main problem by the looks of things.

maybe we should give usain bolt a trial, he said he's retiring from sprinting too and fancies himself as a footballer, if nothing else we'll sell a lot of shirts lol! :-)

Just because someone is quick doesn't make them a good player - look at JET or Haynes. There's loads of players out there with pace but not a lot else. Taylor is bloody awful and so lightweight. Shame this had to be an article in the first place. We had all pretty much forgotten about him I think.

Agreed you do need more than pace alone.
However, i wouldn't totally write off JET, he's doing damn fine at Bristol City and another bigger club may come knocking, whether he would seize such an opportunity with the necessary attitude and work ethic remains to be seen but I've got a feeling we haven't heard the last of JET. As Jewell said, he can go from world beater to panel beater. Remember when we whacked West Ham for 5, JET was unstoppable! And I wouldn't have minded Haynes and his pace on Sunday! :-)

As I said pace alone isn't enough, agreed. You at least need a pair of white or red boots to go with it lol! :-)

this is the video i was on about, yes it's down a level but seems like we never got anything like what we should of from taylor. although he hardly helped himself by his off-field antics and such like. just seems a waste but football clubs are always littered with stories of wasted talents.

This comment (see below) on YouTube made me laugh, Taylor being compared to Pele, wtf!? :-)

"Paul Taylor played in the greatest 5 aside team with me for 3 years. We were all 16, Taylor at the time was about 12. He was nicknamed Pele and was man of the match week in week out. Proper talent. More talked about than Rooney until he dropped off football. Great to see him back and he will only get better and better."
