Parr Still Aiming for Top Two
Friday, 13th Mar 2015 06:00

Town defender or midfielder Jonny Parr claims he doesn’t bother to check on the Championship league table but that doesn’t mean he is in the dark about who sits where in the promotion pecking order.

The Norwegian international said: “To be honest I don’t even look at the league table at the moment. In 10 games’ time I’ll have a look and see where we are.

“We’re five points off the top — that’s what people are telling me all the time — and that’s what we have to look at.

“None of the players has any fear of not getting into the play-offs or even the top two. We have that as our goal and we are pushing for it. We are enjoying being up there in a great position going into the last 10 games.

“We are not afraid to drop out but we desperately want to get back in there and be in the top two come the end of the season.”

Town head for Middlesbrough on Saturday to take on one of four teams on the 66-point mark and Parr is glad to have had a full week in which to prepare for the Teesside clash after games at Norwich and Leeds, then at home to Brentford, were all staged in the space of just seven days.

The former Crystal Palace player added: “It was a tough week for us last week and it’s always good to have a bit more time after a week like that. We have been preparing well and looking forward to the game on Saturday.

“We have not had a great run since Christmas and there are many reasons for that. We just have to look at our performance last Saturday against Brentford, which was good. We deserved to take three points and hopefully we can build on that and get into a good run over the last 10 games.

“We are still in a great position — five points off the top with 10 games to go is a good place to be and hopefully we can do well in the games that are left. It is small margins between winning and losing.

“Every game is really tight but I thought the performance against Brentford was good. Hopefully we can build on that with another against Middlesbrough and bring some points back from there.

“Nothing has changed from the start of the season when the target was promotion or at least the play-off places. Now that we are getting close to the finish we’re not far off it and the ambition is still there.”
