Berra Nets Winner for Scotland
Wednesday, 25th Mar 2015 21:50

Town centre-half Christophe Berra netted the winning goal as Scotland beat Northern Ireland 1-0 in a friendly at Hampden Park.

Berra, on as a half-time sub, headed home Bournemouth winger Matt Ritchie’s right-sided corner with five minutes left on the clock.

It was the 30-year-old’s third international goal in his 29th full international appearance.

"It was a difficult game, they made it very difficult," the Blues defender said afterwards. "When teams do that it's very hard to break them down.

"Sometimes games are won on set pieces and luckily enough I managed to get my head on the end of a good corner kick and it just sneaked in."

Berra is the first Town player to score for Scotland since John Wark netted in a 2-2 draw with Switzerland in a European Championships qualifier at Hampden Park in March 1983.

The Scots are in action again on Sunday when they face Gibraltar in a European Championships qualifer, also at Hampden Park.

Rest! They've got the serious business of facing Gibraltar on Sunday. Now that's what I call international football.
