Town Win Williams Battle and Also Sign Fryers
Thursday, 26th Mar 2015 16:50

Town have confirmed the signing of Crystal Palace’s Jonny Williams for a third loan spell and have also added his Eagles team-mate Zeki Fryers to the squad.

Williams, 21, returns to the Blues for a third spell having been at Portman Road last season and having had an earlier stint with Town this season curtailed by a groin injury from which he has only just returned to training.

Although clubs are not allowed to take a player on two emergency loans in the same season, in situations such as Williams’s where a player had a spell cut short by injury then clause 53.3.12* of the Football League rules allows that loan to be restarted at the point the injury was suffered.

We understand Williams has 53 days of his spell remaining which will take him to the play-off semi-finals but means he would miss the final if Town make it to Wembley.

Town fought off interest from Wolves, Fulham and Watford to sign the midfielder for the third time.

Williams made four starts and one sub appearance, scoring one goal, between September and November before suffering a groin injury in the 1-0 home victory against Watford after a wild Joel Ekstrand challenge.

Last season, the Pembury-born player made 11 starts and two sub appearances, scoring one goal between February and May.

Left-back Fryers, 22, joined Palace from Tottenham for £5 million in the summer having previously been with Manchester United and Standard Liege.

The Mancunian, who has made only one sub appearance for the Eagles, has already spent time on loan with Rotherham this year and faced the Blues in one of his 10 appearances.

The 6ft tall defender, who will be with Town for the rest of the season, has been capped by England at U16, U17 and U19 levels.

The Blues are in need of cover at full-back with Tyrone Mings suspended for the next two games having amassed 10 bookings and Jonny Parr having missed the game at Watford with a minor knock and having played in midfield in recent weeks.

*53.3.12 The Executive shall have discretion to extend the maximum duration of 93 days for an Emergency Loan in extenuating circumstances, such circumstances to be determined in the Executive’s absolute discretion.

Great boost at just the right time, after winning at Watford. Well done all involved in making this happen.

As for the euphoria - the usual over reaction by some, even claiming we've won the League already - I think we'll leave that a tad longer before we start singing from the rooftops.

Now we will see what we are made of - or not - as the case maybe.

Bring it on. COYB.

Very good news.
Thank you to ME and all involved.
We now have quality depth in all areas.

We need to build on that excellent performance and result at Watford.
The togetherness that we had midseason has now been re-created so let's take this to a successful finish TOGETHER.

hate to rain on everyones parade but why does ne1 think that this one player ,however good he may be, is suddenly gonna win us the league or guarantee a play-off spot? while im happy enough that weve signed him, having been led to think that we couldn't do so, no single player is gonna guarantee success. I remember many on here hailing derby for their signings in jan, not done them that much good, has it? plus we have to remember that JW hasn't played any football since getting the injury against Watford earlier in season, so could be well off the pace. lets hope tho that he can hit the ground running. certainly a good asset if on form.

Don't think i'm going to be able to sleep tonight, so happy with MM TC ME and co! Can't wait till Freddie and Jonny start ripping up the trees. I'm begining to believe that the aforementioned MM etc know exactly what they are doing and are quietly getting on with it!

Welcome back Joniesta and welcome Fryers. Real statement of intent here which should inspire the dressing room too. What odds on a Joniesta goal v Bournemouth.

Great work MM & ME, go Town!

Williams and mcgoldrick will be back in the team, I'm getting really excited again! like new signings. They will provide much better ball retention, play through the middle with ball on ground. This in itself will take pressure off Der and holding mid (skuse). Fantastic !

Bluesince84: exactly my sentiments! Hopefully we can do those diving cheats from Bournemouth and deliver another couple of knockout punches to regain a top 2 place.

You wouldnt want to bet against this squad now. We have it all now. Passion, quality and what of the others dont have, work ethic. COYfB 's

This is a huge boost to the squad and a sign of clear intention.

Roll on Bournemouth. Always rated Fryers and he'll be an outstanding addition to the squad. Williams means we finally have a creative force to be reckoned with.

If we can beat Bournemouth; momentum could take us into 2nd place.

Your post was perfect Jonny Williams is a super footballer we all agree, is he back to his best we have to wait and see thats all you are saying.I like many on here are delighted with the additions to our squad but you get slaughtered if you question fitness of any player.

Exciting news, but will Mick start him with Skuse, Bru and Bishop, as we would like? And how long until he is nobbled by someone and out for the season?

What will happen when McGoldrick is back? For me, Sears has been the revelation of the season. He was an awesome acquisition, so direct, combative, and hardly ever fails to test the keeper. He will be big for us next year. So, can he be dropped for McGoldrick?

Jonny Williams is the new Jimmy Bullard of ITFC (in how much we love him), but with a full career ahead of him. The kid is a fantastic talent and clearly a reet good lad off the pitch. Loving the hunger for 3 points against Bournemouth as well, we beat them and who knows what next?!

Ipswich are back, Ipswich are back.

WOW! Well played Mick (and, I have to admit, Marcus). That was a surprise. We still need to make this positive move count on the pitch, but if we fail, no-one can now say we didn't give it a good try. Ipswich are in the mix. Let's go for it.
