BBC Radio Suffolk Agree New Commentary Deal
Wednesday, 5th Aug 2015 17:18

BBC Radio Suffolk has agreed a new commentary deal with the club which will see them cover Town games home and away until the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

Brenner Woolley will continue his role as commentator with regular summariser Mick Mills joining him at Brentford for the season opener at Griffin Park on Saturday (KO 3pm).

Charlotte Spackman, Radio Suffolk's assistant editor, said: "This is great news for our listeners who follow the fortunes of Ipswich Town on BBC Radio Suffolk. It means more great commentary on every game, interviews and analysis."

Town MD Ian Milne added: "We are very pleased to continue our long relationship with BBC Radio Suffolk. We will continue to increase our contribution to the shows presented by Mark Murphy, Etholle George and Brenner Woolley."

Saturday sees the return of Life’s a Pitch with Mark Murphy, Kevin Beattie, Tractorboy and TWTD’s Phil Ham.

The show, which will be live from Portman Road when the Blues are at home, will be in its regular noon to 2pm slot throughout the season, although this Saturday it will end at 1pm and will be followed by a documentary, Mick McCarthy: In His Own Words, which is also being broadcast on Friday at 4pm.

The commentator needs to understand football (rules!) and stop asking MM stupid questions! Gradually improving but if 5live have a commentary on Ipswich listen to that rather than Radio Suffer.
Mills is a delight to listen to and always has been a bit slow but you cant fault his knowledge and reading of the game. A massive improvement on some of the other summarisers!

ITFC do not allow the bbc to publish their home games on iplayer or the net in general, nothing to do with the bbc other than they can't afford to buy it.
Interesting to see / hear if radio norfolk which is on freeview broadcasts their games outside of norfolk.

This is great news - as others have said that season when it was on Heart was terrible. I think the commentary and general coverage is great. As someone that does not live in the area my main contact is the commentary online and this website.
If only the website worked better. It is now improving particularly on smartphones. Overall great news

Probably shouldn't be advertising this.... but for those of you wanting to listen to commentary you should join the TWTD chatroom on match days.

All i'm saying is that I live in leicestershire and I get to listen to the matches.

It's a super service with some outstanding professionals running the show and arguably the best local football broadcast in the country.

Believe me, having subscibed to Ipswich Player for the last seven years I think I have heard them all and nine compares to our very own.

Having lived in other part of the country where the local BBC football commentators dont bother to learn the names of opposition players (BBC Leeds and Cumbria) I can wholeheartedly say that Brenner is the best I have ever heard on local radio and we are lucky to have him.

Perhaps before criticising the performance of the current commentators, nolanfanips should learn that football does not have rules, but rather LAWS.

Anyway be careful what you wish for as we might get a Charles Collins clone.

i like the commentary, but im afraid Mick Mills as decent a footballer as he was is no commentator he drones on about what the player should have done all the time, its all very well being right after the event, and he cant even pronounce players names correctly half the time, even Town players !.Sorry if it upsets anyone ,he may be a nice bloke and a Town legend, but he dosnt cut the mustard as a commentator .

Get annoyed on the way home listening to people who werent at the match.
I like Brenner but he never points out to Mick pre game what the fans talk about in the buildup i.e. players we dont undesrand being picked, players playing out of position etc. Its all a bit too comfortable.

I disagree once again. This service is the personification of everything that is good about local radio and we should be applauding its endeavors.

Mick Mills is the master of articulation and although I would gladly admit he does make the occasional grammatical error, his football foresight makes him stand out in any crowd.
