Town’s U18s will face Bristol City or Cardiff City at home in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup if they overcome Liverpool in the third round next Wednesday.

The young Blues, who have no league game this weekend, face the Reds at St Helens’ Langtree Park (KO 7pm).

Town, who won the competition in 1973, 1975 and 2005, previously faced the Reds at the fourth round stage in 2006 when they were beaten 2-1 with future Blues midfielder Paul Anderson netting one of the goals.

Last season the Blues reached the fourth round stage where they were beaten 3-1 away at Sunderland, having defeated Colchester United 4-2 on penalties following a 0-0 draw at the Weston Homes Community Stadium in round three.

The Robins host the Bluebirds in their third round tie at Ashton Gate on Monday evening.

Fourth round ties - Town will play the game at Portman Road if the youngsters win at Liverpool - must be played prior to Saturday 16th January.
