Bournemouth Await Town or Pompey in Fourth Round
Monday, 11th Jan 2016 19:25

Town will face Premier League AFC Bournemouth at home in the fourth round of the FA Cup if they beat Portsmouth in next Tuesday's replay at Fratton Park.

The Blues have been drawn against the Cherries twice in the FA Cup previously. In 1952, a first round tie went to two replays with Town ultimately beating the club then known as Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic 3-2 at Highbury after games at Portman Road and Dean Court had ended 1-1 and 2-2.

More recently, Town defeated the Dorset side 3-0 at the fourth round stage at Portman Road in February 1992 with Chris Kiwomya, Jason Dozzell, Steve Whitton scoring the goals.

Brett Pitman will be up against his former club if the Blues make it through but on-loan Cherry Ryan Fraser will be ineligible against his old club, while ex-Blues full-back Tyrone Mings is out for the season with a knee injury.

Bournemouth won 2-1 at Birmingham City in the third round on Saturday.

The draw took place live on The One Show earlier this evening where Horry Money, the chairman of the London Branch of the Supporters Club, was Town's representative in the studio along with fans from all the other clubs in the draw.

Fourth round ties will be played between Friday 29th January and Monday 1st February.

Trying to think of something positive but still have Saturday's dire performance in my mind, more of the same at Fratton Park & it will be Pompey playing Eddie Howe's men.

Portsmouth v Bournemouth would be a very entertaining footballing encounter based on the evidence of our cup game on Saturday...however, now having seen how Pompey play the passing game from the back, MM could pick an attacking side, playing far further up the pitch to stifle it? We would also need Bru to play, to be the link between defence and attack, to stop this infernal hoofing of the ball from the backline.
Also keep Kyle Bennett out of the game, he was the star player, plus special pressure put on their keeper, who was our star player?

With the financial rewards for promotion this year and the fact we are not going to win the cup I don't care what team MM picks for cup games so long as the likes of Sears,Pitman and others stay injury free. Yes a cup run would be nice but I feel that there is much more at stake else where. I wonder if Ipswich v Bournemouth would be on the BBC.?

Seen as we're better away should beat Pompey . However all down to MM and how seriously he takes it . Bournemouth would be a good test at home and something to look forward to . It's about time we had another cup run always gets the fans excited and still remember taking 9000 to Arsenal for league cup semi . We need a bit of excitement MM play a decent team in the replay !

at present we have about as much chance of getting promoted as winning the FA cup so may as well pick the strongest team available and take each game as it comes, lets start with a win tonight first.

Anyone planning on going to the game shouldn't be put off by the possibility of a TV match. I can't see the Beeb showing anything other than Derby-ManU.

....... what do you really do as THE PERFECT ITFC FAN ? (which you quite clearly think you are) - other than agree with ALL and EVERYTHING that McCarthy says, does, and produces. And, of course, slag off anyone who dares to disagree with you or your 'messiah' - TRUE BLUE ?? ..... absolute JOKE.

Maybe a hand in the pocket more often would see you seeing things from a different angle ? - just a thought, but only just ... !!
