Samuelsen Linked With Half-Season Loan
Tuesday, 23rd Aug 2016 16:08

Norwegian sources are linking West Ham midfielder Martin Samuelsen with a loan move to the Blues until January with the possibility of an extension to the end of the season.

TWTD revealed the Blues’ interest in the 19-year-old Norwegian international yesterday with Town boss Mick McCarthy and Terry Connor subsequently making the trip to watch the Hammers U23s beat Newcastle 3-1 at Dagenham and Redbridge’s Victoria Road.

According to Tore Søyland of Norwegian TV channel Viasat Sport, Samuelsen is set to be loaned to the Blues initially on a half-season loan but with the potential for the switch to be extended to the end of the campaign.

Samuelsen played youth football with hometown club Vard Haugesund before being recruited by Manchester City as a 15-year-old.

After three years with City the 6ft 2½in tall winger or attacking central midfielder moved on to West Ham in June 2015.

He spent much of last season on loan at Peterborough, where he made nine starts and 11 sub appearances, scoring twice.

Samuelsen, who has made two Europa Cup sub appearances for West Ham, won his first full Norway cap as a sub in a 3-2 friendly victory over Iceland in June having previously played at U16, U17, U18 and U21 levels.

After signing a new four-year contract with the Hammers earlier today, the youngster said he'd welcome another spell out on loan.

“This season, I think it’s either going to be another loan or first team football for me at West Ham,” he told the official West Ham website.

“I really enjoyed my time at Peterborough United last season and to have another spell playing good football on loan somewhere would be great.

“Both options would be good for me, but one is tougher to achieve than the other! Whatever happens for me this year, I’ll go into it 100 per cent committed. My long-term goal is to get into the West Ham first team XI.”

Speaking yesterday, Town boss Mick McCarthy said he was "trying to get a couple more in" before the transfer window closes next week, additions he expected would be loans or free agents.

Released former Rotherham frontman Leon Best is currently on trial with the Blues and scored for the U23s in yesterday’s 3-2 defeat to Birmingham at Playford Road.

Sounds promising. Let's just hope he doesn't ask Jonny Parr about whether he should come here though.

Agree with you Seasider regarding the loans. I would rather get a good player in on a seasonlong loan, then not get him at all.

And besides, with the Bosmanruling a player can leave for free when his contract is up, so owning a player who plays out the last year of his contract or having a player in on loan for a season is really no different.

Looks decent! Quite easily knocked over but seems to consistently win free kicks for it. Would love to have him bring it on!

It may be a loan but we need more quality..

I have been an Ipswich supporter for over 50 years and was a season ticket holder before I became disabled and no longer able to go. I always remember every year there was always a moaner sitting close to me and we could be winning 3-0 and they still had to moan.
on Sunday after the match one person said the match was total rubbish, after a lot of positive comments he wrote again saying he may have got it wrong. Do these people watch the match before moaning.
This brings me to the possible signing of Samuelson you moaners are at it again. The only way we are going to get someone with his abilities is as a loan as we are not prepared to pay the type of fee his club would demand.
If he wants to come here on loan we should welcome him with open arms. This is the type of player all you moaners are wanting us to sign, someone creative and with pace. I don't care if he looks ten if he can fill that attacking midfield spot lets get him.
One last thing as long as Chambers has two legs and doesn't get injured he will not be dropped, just live with it or go and watch Sunday league matches.
