Notable Absentees as U23s Lose at Cardiff
Monday, 16th Jan 2017 23:50

Town’s U23s were beaten 3-1 at Cardiff City earlier this evening with several regulars missing, presumably as they’re with the first team squad ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup third round replay at Lincoln City.

Striker Albert Wilton scored the goal for the Blues eight minutes after the break when they were already 2-0 down, while Rhys Healey, James Waite and Matty Kennedy were on target for the Bluebirds.

Young strikers Ben Morris (pictured), 17, and Shane McLoughlin, 19, midfielder Adam McDonnell, 19, left-back Pat Webber, 17, and central defender or right-back George Fowler, 19, didn’t make the trip to Wales, so are likely to have travelled with the senior squad and a number of them could be on the bench at Sincil Bank, having been unused subs for the first game against the Vanarama National League leaders.

Andre Dozzell, 17, who has also featured for the U23s this season, is expected to start against the Imps.

Keeper Michael Crowe made his return to action against the Cardiff youngsters having been sidelined with an ankle ligament injury since October.

U23s: Crowe, Salaudeen, Ndaba, Blanchfield, Woolfenden, Robinson (c), McKendry, Patterson, McGavin, Wilton, Folami. Subs: Cathline, Hayes, Meldrum, Daniels.
