Kesgrave School Team Reaches EFL Kids Cup Final at Wembley
Tuesday, 7th Mar 2017 16:29

Town may now be huge outsiders to make the top six but there will still be a Blues presence at the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Monday 29th May with Cedarwood Primary School in Kesgrave having reached the final of the EFL Kids Cup.

After winning an Ipswich qualifying tournament for the right to represent Town, the Year Six side from the school travelled to Southall for the southern area finals hosted by Brentford yesterday where they took on school teams from the 11 other Championship sides based in the south.

They defeated QPR, Wolves, Birmingham and Brighton to top their group, losing only to Cardiff, before defeating Bristol City in the semi-final and then QPR 4-1 in the final to secure a place at Wembley, where they will face the winning northern side ahead of the Championship play-off final.

Meanwhile, Portman Road will host only one of the Suffolk FA’s county cup finals, while seven more will take place in Essex at Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium.

With the Elton John concert taking place in the summer and the annual pitch renovation, the Blues were only able to offer one date to the Suffolk FA - Sunday 30th April - which clashes with the Ryman League Premier Division play-off final, which may involve clubs who could reach the Suffolk FA Premier Cup final.

Therefore, the Senior Cup final will be played on that date at Portman Road with the Premier Cup, Junior Cup, Women’s Cup, Primary Cup, Sunday Cup, Senior Reserve Cup and Boys' U18s Midweek Cup finals all to be played at Colchester. Full dates on the Suffolk FA site.

If Town or the U's reach their respective divisional play-offs, then alternate venues in Suffolk will be found.
