McCarthy: No Chance of Lawrence Being at Town Next Season
Thursday, 20th Apr 2017 15:04

Town boss Mick McCarthy says there’s “not a chance” that 11-goal top scorer Tom Lawrence will be at Portman Road next season.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a hugely successful season-long spell on loan from Leicester and McCarthy says the Wales international will now be looking to make the step up into the Premier League.

“No chance, I think,” McCarthy said when asked about the likelihood of the Blues looking to make Lawrence, who has a year left on his Leicester contract, a permanent addition in the summer.

“For one, I think Tom will have his heart on the Premier League and I think he’ll get that.

“And if they are going to sell him, there’ll be a lot of takers. Tom’s been brilliant, we’ve all loved him, everybody’s really appreciated what he’s done, but I think he’s got his heart set on Premier League football. And why wouldn’t he? So I would say there’s not a chance.”

In January, a host of clubs were reported to be interested in the former Manchester United trainee, including Cardiff, QPR, Leeds, Sunderland, Newcastle and Derby.

Why can't we keep him?! Otherwise ,by the list of teams mentioned ,it's a sideways move.
Evans ,here's your chance to show the fans some ambition.

good luck to T L , he has given it everything whilst with us on loan. There was never any hope of him staying, that I'm afraid is what we have to put up with whilst Evans is the owner, .I fear more bad news will be coming out of Portman Rd before we get any good news .

There are some dreadful and ignorant comments from some posters on this site. There is no way Tom L would even want to stay at Ipswich when His own club will want him just like Bournemouth did Fraser.Even if Leicester decide to cash in it's going to be £8 million or so to sign him. if we had that sort of money for players we'd expect to get three or four and in all honesty what does £2 or 3 million buy these days? Yes, Huwswould be a good buy but because he's done well for us Warnock will want £3-4 million and maybe he'll want him back at Cardiff anyway. It's time some of these so called fans grew up and supportedTown realistically.

I'm afraid that's what you get with the loan system. Mostly it's a case of getting a player properly match fit or ticking over for a parent club, and saying "bye bye" at the end of the season! Personally i'd scrap the loan system completely (should get a few down arrows!) and bring back the Combination/Reserve leagues to use as a stepping stone for a teams own youngsters, those on the fringe of the first team, and also those players making their way back from injury. What you might call a step back into the future! Lots of things i'd change in the game today, but that's probably for another discussion.

Then don't play him the last three games. Give our youngsters a shot.

Maybe Rowe can step up into his place in the team?

As for not playing him in the last three games, Mick has already said that he may miss out on Saturday bet he would be playing if we still needed the points.

Yeah, just read that. Would be nice to get some youth experience. Nothing to lose at this point.

Personally, I'd settle for Murphy on loan for a season.

ANYWAY
Unless you're feeling charitable, win Euromillions and decide to stay, thank you TL. The best Lawrence since DH and the "of Arabia" one.

Shame Lawrence hasn't realised this club is the one that suits his game. He may not find another. As I believe every player and coach has one club out there for them to flourish.. from that it won't be a tragedy to lose some of squad..
