Dozzell Signs New Deal
Tuesday, 2nd May 2017 17:00

Midfielder Andre Dozzell has signed a new contract with the Blues which will keep him at Portman Road until the summer of 2020.

Dozzell turns 18 today which allows him to put pen to paper on a contract longer than the two-year deal he signed on his 17th birthday.

“I’ve been in and around the first-team this season and that’s my goal, to play regularly for the team,” Dozzell told the club site.

“That is the only thing that will keep me improving and that is what I’m focused on.

“It was hard when I wasn’t involved over the first half of the season but I can see why I wasn’t.

"The Championship is a tough league and it’s difficult to throw someone of my age into those types of games but I’ve been working hard in the gym to become bigger and stronger.”

The former Copleston High School pupil came through the academy and has now made eight senior starts and three sub appearances.

The England U18 international's only first-team goal so far was his header scored after coming on as a sub at Sheffield Wednesday this time last season, emulating his father Jason's feat of scoring a debut goal aged only 16.

Given he hasn't had much playing time this season I wonder if he had stipulated in his contract that there's a change of manager in the Summer.

Good news. So if all fit we might have the opportunity to see from the Youths in the next couple of seasons

Smithy, Hyam, Bish, Dozzel, Tristan, Benyu, Kenlock and Emmanuel.

I think we have a couple of England youth keepers coming through. Just need a striker or two now. What we would give for a fast and tricky winger from the youths.

Good news I hope this means that Jason knows that McCarthy is departing.

Everyone should be entitled to an opinion rather than being attacked for it on here. Want to hear some more positive stories over the next few weeks now!

A little good news goes a long way, and this is great - well done Andre.

So, now IM/MM, instead of wasting hundreds of thousands of £'s on giants and free agents in their 30's, have a think about using our miniscule budget wisely and build a team around some of the promising youths and young players we have such as Andre, Benyu, Webster, Kenlock and Emmanuel. We have enough 'experience' in the squad to support the youngsters [Chambers, McGoldrick, Smith].
Also if we hadn't wasted so much money in wages on a multitude of has beens [Best, Douglas, Taylor] we might be in a better position to put in a decent bid on 1 quality player to actually add something to the team - Lawrence may be a slightly ambitious target, but you get my point!
Think about some of the players we have produced over the years and how they helped us by adding dynamism to the team, and in some cases after some years of sterling service moved on for significant fees - Wright, Dyer, Dozzell senior, Talbot, Butcher, Bramble, Scowcroft - the list goes on.
This seasons approach hasn't worked and all we have had is excuses. [ME puts in £5m pa blah blah blah]
I would be disappointed if we finish in as lowly a position next season, but personally, if I can see a plan coming together, and a unity of the style of football played through every level at the club and development of a team, I would be more prepared to accept it.
Over to you chaps - you keep telling us how you know best. Don't you think it's time to prove it?
By the way, this isn't anything new - it's simple recycling of what Robson and Burley did so successfully!
I won't hold my breath.

Very happy with this. He will have to bulk up a bit physically which I believe is the main reason he wasn't regularly in the first team.

I feel that sometimes both Swn98 and Pragmatic Blue tend to play 'Devils Advocate'.

Take for instance this topic.Mr McCarthy has been here over four and a half years;but during that time NOT ONE teenage player has managed to hold down a first team place.

Marcus Rashford,I wonder if Mick would consider him ready?

Then you have 18 year old Kylian Mbappe(same age) who will be playing this evening in the Champions League semi final for Monaco, and he has also earned a place in the senior French squad. There are many more examples.

Closer to home Bobby Robson George Burley and BFJ brought several teenagers through during their tenure here. It appears to be one of several traits that a lot of us,not you two, find somewhat puzzling with MM,and in some cases downright unacceptable;so please allow us to have our say without criticism.

Not criticsm at all seasider just agree with bringing youngsters along slowly some on here would of liked to of seen him play 20 plus games you have only got to look at his physique to see he would not be up to it at the moment.

Interesting hearing what he says.
I hate the fact that he says he needs to bulk up in order to play, that's shocking advice he has been given. I player of his talent should be encouraged to develop that talent even further. The top players don't worry about bulking up.

I truly hope for his sake he is able to move on to a club that respects skill and natural ability. We used to be that club. But with MM in charge we won't be again.

By signing on, at least Andre has done tight thing and ensures we get a better fee if in fact he does move on.

The more I hear, the more I read about the club, the more I see how poor MM has been in his assessment and treatment of players and how unprofessional the chairman has been in taking it all without uttering a word. If he acted like this in his other businesses he'd have been shoved out ages ago.
