Skipper Chambers Signs New Deal
Friday, 5th May 2017 10:31

Town have announced that skipper Luke Chambers has signed a new two-year deal.

The Blues had already confirmed their intention to exercise the one-year option in the 31-year-old’s previous contract.

"I never envisaged leaving and I'm pleased to get things sorted now. I'm looking forward to the future now," the central defender or right-back told Ipswich Player HD.

Chambers putting pen to paper on a new deal ends months of speculation regarding his future, his former club Nottingham Forest - who the Blues meet in Sunday's final day game at the City Ground - having made a move for him on the final day of the January transfer window.

Centre back Mick NOT a right back!...glad if he keeps him there.

I know Chambers loves the club and gives it his all, but personally I don't think he is good enough. His distribution is poor and he gets beaten by pace too much for my liking. Good to have around the dressing room, but would prefer a Webster/Smith combo to start.

This is a backward step and in keeping with the present problems with the club.
Not giving him a new contract would surely have signalled a change of direction and philosophy. The best teams I've seen at PR this season, (particularly Fulham for example) all had defenders that are completely comfortable on the ball and are happy to play their way out of trouble as opposed to our persistence of "booting" the ball away in the hope that it falls to one of our players.
Since when has being a "top bloke" and "good in the changing room " been so important in modern day football? It is surely possible to be both of those things AND good at football as well!
If Webster is fit and chambers plays at RB then this really is the end of any hope we might have next season.

Going totally against general consensus here!
IF McCarthy stays the first person who should be shown the door is Chambers. IF McCarthy is serious about rebuilding the team, then Chambers and the 'cozy gang' all need to be moved on. This lot over the last two seasons have contributed to the team under performing, and believe me, IF McCarthy and his untouchables start the season at Portman Rd...God help us!
