TWTD Questionnaire 2016/17 Results Now Online
Friday, 9th Jun 2017 15:30

TWTD’s seventies-style supercomputer, the Osborne 1.0, has been fired up once again and the results of the TWTD Questionnaire 2016/17 are now available. This year a record 3,203 supporters took part, making it by far the biggest annual survey of Town fans.

To read this year’s results and to look back at the TWTD Questionnaire from the previous nine seasons, click here. There is a comments section on each question where you can add your thoughts.

Many thanks to all those who took the time to answer all or even some of the questions. As ever, we'll pass the results on to the club and other interested parties.

@cheshire_blue

LOL! Is there noooooo limitation to your (un)delightful "IGNORANCE" (and that is phrasing it mildly!) dear @chesshire_blue????

(BEWARE! The following is quite long-winded I know :-), but I apologies if I must :-) since I can't really make it much shorter WHEN I strongly feel the dreaded 'Need' inherently exist here to basically "cut-it-out-in-cardboard-pieces" for SOME individuals here, like for instance @cheshire_blue) ... but I will split the post in 2 so those who already have basic or better knowledge of Surveys & their in-all-but-the-very-odd-case (Trump's election victory for instance) fairly unmistakably "Reliability", can skip Part I if they like.)

Part I
While none of us quite obviously and quite literally know for **dead certain** what those who don't take part in a survey, questionnaire or election really thinks, there is beside simply a **mere** decent COMMON & MATHEMATICAL SENSE!, such things as industry standard wise 'Survey Sample Size Calculations & Measurements' with ensuing tables of various sorts for showing what is a poor, average, above average, good or truly outstanding showing of shall we combined say "Reliability" in surveys of really any type.

.... which is exactly what I believe you are in DIRE NEED of reading up on dear @Cheshire_blue! I'm pretty confident there are more than enough to pick from on The Net, but just this here site for instance:

https://www.checkmarket.com/blog/how-to-estimate-your-population-and-survey-samp

which among other nifty things informs you that quote: "For an online survey, conventionally, a response rate of 20% is considered as a 'good response rate', while a 30% response rate is considered to be 'really really good'." So sorrrrrry to utterly disappoint you there @Cheshire_blue .... but ohhhh there is much more quite FACT-based disappointment coming your way next I'm afraid :-)

First though 2 other pivotal survey expressions to briefly elaborate on:
The 'Margin of Error' = in any type survey is simply a percentage that tells you how much you can expect your survey results to reflect the views of the overall population (ITFC fans). The smaller the margin of error, the closer you are to having the exact answer at a given confidence level.

The 'Confidence Level' = tells you how sure you can be. It is expressed as a percentage and represents how often the true percentage of the population (ITFC fans) who would pick an answer lies within the confidence interval. The 95% confidence level means you can be 95% certain; the 99% confidence level means you can be 99% certain. Most researchers use the 95% confidence level.

@cheshire_ blue

Part II
OK now out of those 3203 people I believe it was roughly 66% who in the TWTD Questionnaire answered they were dissatisfied with MM (same for and IM & ME) and about same percentage didn't want him to continue being the manager, and it was even a bit more in EADT/IES's Ipswich Town Survey if I recall correctly.
Where btw 66% out of 3203 is a staggering 2114 number of beyond fed-up with the current regime ITFC fans. **Especially** staggering if you multiple 3203 by 5 in order to exceed those 16,0000 you mentioned ....cause from a "SURVEY RELIABILITY" POV then you suddenly in theory potentially have 2114 x 5 = 10,570 people out of those 16,000+ fans being very much anti-regime!!!

But let us just concentrate on your own 2 basic TWTD numbers i.e. sample size = 3203 & population (ITFC fans) size = 16,0000, which is really all that's required to arrive not only at a given 'Confidence Level' but even more crucially the 'Margin of Error' levels of this particular survey.
So now try for yourself to insert these 2 figures into any professionally made online SAMPLE SURVEY CALCULATOR you darn well like :-) .... and keep in mind that according to the Industry Standard in any type of survey the 'Margin of Error' level and the 'Confidence level' for obtaining & presenting quote: "Good & Reliable" result & measurement is 5% and 95% respectively!

....And OOOPS!!!! what do you know @cheshire_blue??? :-) lol
The 'Margin of Error' of this 3203 out of 16000 is a hands down **SUPERB** 1.55% (with the 'Confidence Level' being maintained at the more common used 95%) ... or an equally **SUPERB** 2.04% (if the 'Confidence Level' is raised and set to an off-the-chart like 99%), in other words whether an immensely poorly argumentative MM-luving muppet as you LIKE IT OR NOT, both this questionnaire and btw also EADT/IES's survey show a more than "reliable", repeat more than "reliable" (again by the industry's very own standard) negative consensus, in this instance an expressed anti-regime consensus among a good majority of ITFC fans. Period!

@Cheshire_Blue. Also Like myself some on here might be voting for a family of supporters. I am speaking on behalf of 4 people in my family who did attend PR and as I am the only one on TWTD I voted with my single vote. I'm sure there will be other members who also voted on behalf of partners/spouse/children and friends ( silent non voters) so the 3203 isn't a true number of fans and in opinion its more like half of the 16-17000 are represented by this vote.

So average season ticket at say 300 you don't have to be that bright to see how much wee worse off before a ball has been kicked . I wonder how many of those and how many more would of bought if MM had of left. On the subject of Evans selling or someone buying who would want to disregarding the shambles were in who in there right mind is going to buy a football club that didn't even own their own ground.

warktheline added 21:47 - Jun 3
Having read an article on 'summer transfers' orchestrated by Milne, my interpretation can only conclude Evans works on a 'need to know' basis! Milne hasn't a clue what was discussed between Evans and McCarthy and is left in the article to make general assumptions about what went on! What a ruddy shambles!

The point made re number of responses assumes that anyone who doesn't use TWTD would vote for MM to stay. Not sure they would. And while I am here 16-17k crowds were not the norm last season & even less so next season.
I like to be positive but I just don't understand some people. We can all see ITFC is in decline & has been for a while. Yet some feel we should just sit & wait, do what we have been doing and results will change. WHY? We haven't been unlucky; the rules haven't changed; the competition is not weaker so why will things change?
We need to change. Get new players, new manager & preferably a new owner. Other clubs have shown that investment allied to good management will work. Not £100m investment but buy some decent players!
And please no more' be careful what you wish for'. I want a successful ITFC & this combination of owner and manager won't give us that.

Thanks for running this questionnaire again. One of the few avenues a fan can use to voice their opinion on the running of the club.

Sadly, I'm not sure how much difference it will make. Mr Evans and his management staff appear deaf to criticism.

@warktheline

Aye that's one mind-boggling .... and rather poorly made! "exclusive story" the run over at EADT.
If even just part of the content of said EADT article is not utterly "made-up" :-) lol
--- well I still clang on to the slimmer than slim hope that at the very least the segment about the Dino already having been allowed to carry on by the ultra football indifferent Marvelous Marcus is nothing more than an assumption!, giving the disgraceful utter lack of any official statements whatsoever since the season ended almost a whole month ago! --- I personally for the very 1st time feel genuinely SOMEWHAT sorry for the beleaguered Mr. Milne! ............ But ohhh not more sorry that I nevertheless still felt very strangely "inclined":-) after having read it a 2nd time especially, to sit down and create this imho fairly appropriate (but also in classic MZT style: inherently sarcastic!) characteristic 'meme' of our moribund club's jaw-droppingly awesome M.D.:

:-)

I have to say the EADT talks as much squit as MM&BME I think I will go away for a month.

@Cheshire_Blue no survey will ever ask everyone the questions, it is by nature a sample which is normally only a couple of 1000 for national surveys. To have responses from 20% of an audience is massively high.
I can also name many supporters who for one reason or another don't have an account on TWTD so didn't do the survey but never the less want to see the back of McCarthy. What I don't know is anyone, ST holder or not, who wants to see McCarthy stay or believe that he is doing a good job.
Being one of those who has a ST for next season I am worried about the silent majority because until everyone speaks up nothing will change and even then I'm not sure Evans gives a toss.

3,203 respondents?

That sounds like the average attendance at Portman Road next season...

It's so frustrating being an Ipswich fan nowadays. So much so people are having pops at each other online. Come on Sheeran do an Elton buy the club and save us from total despair and prolonged agony. We want to be happy football fans again.

Hey Phil & Co. could you PLEASE call-up our club's immaculate M.D. ... on your super Satellite Video Phone :-) or whatever really, so we here at TWTD also can get some of this otherwise "EXCLUSIVE" news (mostly with regard to the Dino) featuring the 'Words of Wisdom' belonging to Mr. Ian Milne, which reporter Stuart Watson has been spouting on EADT and its affiliates the last couple of days? Thank You in advance.

In the meantime ...and despite still no official statements, the dreaded Dino is apparently staying on -- in spite of in the region of 70% 'Disapproval Rate' both in TWTD's survey as well as among EADT/IES's readers in their survey -- and properly to 2020 too I fear!, all with ME's almost lobotomized-like football clueless consent, according to IM here:

http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich-town-managing-director-ian-milne-not-a-fan-o

Also of **special** note in this "Exclusive" EADT article, while commentating on and even criticizing not-too-smartly the new Norwich setup and also young proven-to-be successful managers like Wagner, our very own flunkey Mr. Ian Milne dropped this here 'boooomb':

"We (at ITFC) believe in what we are doing here. We think it works well and it's proven to have worked well in the not too distant past."

(Oh dear Oh dear! So to quote the legendary John McEnroe (once again, sadly in relation to mind-blowing ITFC matters under Marcus Evans): "YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!!!!!!!!!" "It works well"???!!! Aye it works soooo soooo well ..... like ..... well I dunno what merely half-decent analogue to use here really .... so say work as "well" as the chronically fabulous Greek economy??? LOL)

Stuart Watson: "But McCarthy said as early as January that he would consider his popularity levels among supporters before committing to the final year of his contract."

Ian Milne: "I don't think that was a good time for him. He was getting a lot of criticism, but we've moved on and he'll come back refreshed."

Hmmm it sure sounds a good bit like our super shrewd M.D is thus implying that just about **ALL** that fundamentally was wrong with this piZzz poor 2016/2017 season and especially the real horrible 2nd half of it, was.... that the Dino turned out to be not only 'hyper-allergic' to criticism (even the well-founded kind!) but most importantly more or less SIMPLY was 'burned-out' and thus needed a good & lengthy holiday (to "refresh" himself). ROFL!!!

Now if those of us who hold more "normal" type of job in Society hmmmm A) simply not only generally stop doing but also sometimes visibly stop even TRYING TO do our job properly (several good MM examples of also the latter throughout the 2nd half of the season springs to mind, like childishly refusing to recognize the stats-based FACT that we did fair & entertain much better when not merely Snooze Doggy Douglas but PARTICULARLY the 'undroppable' Cole Skuse was unavailable and thus not in the starting XI) for ANY reason including feeling criticized and not "refreshed" an thus in dire need of a holiday :-) LOL --- and of course B) starts blaming lack of production/results (like the 1-win-in-14-run etc.) partly on the customers?! & also basically just verbally attacking the customers at any opportunity including referring to them as "f@ckers"!!! .... well then about 90% of us would surely very very quickly lose our job altogether and the other 10% might 'get-off' with only being on the receiving end of a severe degradation and reassignment!

Personally I'm soooo done with this club WHILE it have it's current regime!, aye also regardless of whether they surprise everyone by before August splashing out some serious amounts of Pesos on a few "quality" players ("quality" in the prehistoric, dinosauric & 'proper bloke' eyes of MM first and foremost mind you!) ....cause the OVER-ALL beyond hilarious, inept & clueless way this once proud and revered football club is being run nowadays simply put MAKES the current White House & it's constantly beleaguered by daily shooting-themselves-in-the-foot, being toe-cringingly disrespectfully rude & generally excessively "mental" administration look like the freakin' absolute pinnacle of the M.E.N.S.A. International Headquarters!!!

MzT - Well said and I'm sure many supporters are sharing the pain of not having a clue where we are heading, actually that pretty much amounts to 7 out of 10 supporters with the polls reflecting this. The head in the sand mentality seems to be continuing in the light of 'let's hope all this blows over' and the fickle fans will soon forget with the coming of the new season, hold on a minute, this ain't going to happen, low season ticket sales, merchandise etc will undoubtably hit the club hard, and very deserving so too imo.
MM started last season that it will only take a few wins to get the crowd back on side, but I think he is seriously underestimating us. I have not started on IM or ME as yet as I was prepared to give them the summer to see what's happens, but the clock is ticking and nothing appears to be happening. If the current regime are to continue then I will simple disassociate myself from all things ITFC (maybe not the forum though!!) for as long as it takes, as for me the Dino has gone past the point of no return, that's horrible to say with my love for the club but that's the way it will be.

Yes, and particularly after a personal 40+ years of faithful & true support, it's hands down excruciatingly painful to the core! .... but that's indeed the way it will be .... for me too!
And btw I sincerely hope a whole lot of other objective ITFC fans with an accompanying STRONG "spine" (as opposed to being what is known as utterly "spineless"!) will follow our example dear @cat .... cause as the magnificent & well-dressed Harry Specter says:

One more thing before I'm off to the Southern Hemisphere -- indefinitely -- searching for not only 'The meaning of Life' but more pressingly 'The meaning & point of being an ITFC fan' (and while I'm at it MAYBE also Dr. Livingston's alleged hidden treasure trunk)!!! :-), with the thing being of particularly interest to those irreversibly belonging to the Anti-Regime faction = Please be a 'Good Chappie' (to blatantly steal another well-known TWTD posters' awesome motto! lol) and check out this great blog (if you haven't already done so):

it's by @realprojection and from last Friday and I myself regrettably overlooked it ....until today, but now I can safely say that imho too it definitely deserves a lot more exposure & views.
