Taylor on Trial at Doncaster
Wednesday, 19th Jul 2017 01:05

Departed Blues defender Steven Taylor is on trial with Doncaster Rovers.

The 31-year-old played the first half for the League One side as they drew 1-1 with Derby County in a friendly at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday evening. Town winger Danny Rowe’s brother Tommy scored the Rovers goal.

Earlier this week, former Newcastle and Portland Timbers man Taylor was told he would not be offered new terms by the Blues, his short-term contract having been up at the end of last season.

Meanwhile, Doncaster have confirmed that striker John Marquis, linked with Town on social media in recent weeks, has signed a new three-year deal.

Shame about Taylor would have liked to have kept him as back up. Also disappointed that we look like we won't be signing John Marquis

Given his injury record and lack of game time recently I think league one is his level. We don't have much money and Mick has said he wants a small squad of first teamers rather than a large squad bulked out with average players. Anyway it's stikers we need.

Sad to see Taylor go, but it was a pragmatic decision and right.

In my view, the eleven players we have who are most worth a place on the team are probably Bialkowski, Spence, Webster, Iorfa, Kenlock, Celina, Huws, McGoldrick, Garner and Sears.

Considering who that leaves on the bench, we still need a quality midfielder and a striker who could score 20 goals in a season. Not much to ask for!
