Knudsen: World Cup Would Be Special
Monday, 20th Nov 2017 19:47

Blues left-back Jonas Knudsen says it would be special to be at next summer’s World Cup in Russia, Denmark having secured their qualification by beating the Republic of Ireland 5-1 in their play-off second leg in Dublin last Tuesday, however, the 25-year-old knows he has work to do to claim a place in the final 23-man travelling party.

Knudsen, who has won two caps, both before he joined the Blues, was a late call into the squad for the two-legged tie against the Irish - the first leg in Copenhagen ended 0-0 - due injuries and was an unused sub in both matches.

“It was brilliant to be called up again” Knudsen said in an interview for the programme for Wednesday’s game against Sheffield Wednesday, a match he will miss having picked up his fifth booking of the season at Hull on Saturday.

“It’s something I’ve been trying to do for a long time and this time I got it. A World Cup in Russia is now something I can hopefully look forward to.

“I’ll need to work very hard to do that but first and foremost I must focus with Ipswich. If you’re not doing well with your club you’ll never get in so that’s very important. To be involved in the World Cup would be special though.”

Either Myles Kenlock or Tristan Nydam is likely to replace Knudsen during his one-game ban against the Owls.

Good to see how we perform without Knusden.
