Chambers: Norwich "Nowhere Near" Play-Off Season Level
Monday, 19th Feb 2018 13:16

Blues skipper Luke Chambers says Norwich City are “nowhere near” the level they were during the 2014/15 season when the sides met in the Championship play-offs.

The Canaries, currently 13th, one place behind the Blues on goal difference, won the two-legged semi-final 4-2 on aggregate and reached the Premier League after beating Middlesbrough 2-0 at Wembley.

However, they lasted only one season in the top flight and are now in their final campaign with parachute payments.

Chambers, whose headed goal was seconds from ending Town’s long wait for a derby victory at Carrow Road yesterday until Timm Klose’s late, late equaliser, felt the home team’s reaction to grabbing the draw was illustrative of their decline.

"They're running around like they've won the cup in the 95th minute when they've spent £200m or whatever in the last five years," Chambers told BBC Radio Suffolk. "It just shows you the state of affairs at the moment.”

He added: “They're not the team that I feel they were three years ago when we played them.

"They're nowhere near that level, hence their league position. Our aim now is to try and finish above them for the rest of the season."

He's right and the club is in a poor state of affairs that the board are reluctant to tell them also. They have no choice but to sell there best players this summer (I.e Maddison, Kline, Zimmerman) because they can't afford the wage bill at the club because its crucifying them and even more so next year without there parachute payments. They're still paying most of Naismiths 65k a week even though he's at Hearts lol.

Regarding Chambers he's a fantastic leader and looks a lot better now he's back at CB and not the out of position place he's been played reguarly

Some, as usual appear to be missing the point about Chambo' s comments.
Scum have spent £300m .... and look where they are! Town have spent nothing in comparison, . Yes we're nowhere near the play offs ( but you have to wonder where we would be had we had all our injured players in the side this season?) ..... that was scums full strength side and we Bossed the game for well over 50% of it.
Take that diving koont Maddison out of their team , and they are truly woeful! They couldn't even beat and injury hit Town side!!

This is where I praise Chambers after many months of the abuse I've given him, he played brilliantly on Sunday and despite how many times he hoofs it, he actually cares about us, I wouldn't call him "our legend", but he is our captain and our leader, and the fact he hates Norwich as much as us has him turned face for me.

I believe we are a much better side than our results imply. Too many players out of position and being unable to clear opposition attacks and
corners because all the players are in the box certainly don't help.
Playing 8 defenders hardly makes an attacking side. It's OK playing 3 central defenders if you have wing backs but Iorfa and Knudson definitely are not. The 3 holding midfield players hardly have a forward pass in them (it seems to have now been coached out of Connelly) so the best two strikers in the world would have been little more than spectators. We are yet to see what two wingers can do (Celina & Carayol) with Ward in the centre of midfield. Good managers change the style to suit the players, bad managers change the players to suit the style.
