Six Changes as Town Face Hull
Tuesday, 13th Mar 2018 19:31

Town boss Mick McCarthy makes six changes from the team which drew 0-0 at home with Sheffield United on Saturday for tonight’s game against Hull City at Portman Road with Luke Hyam, Grant Ward, Jordan Spence, Jonas Knudsen, Tristan Nydam and Freddie Sears all starting.

Cole Skuse misses out, presumably due to injury, as does Dominic Iorfa (groin), while Adam Webster, Martyn Waghorn, Callum Connolly and Myles Kenlock all drop to the bench.

The Blues look set to switch to the 4-3-2-1 system they favoured until last month with Hyam and Stephen Gleeson the deeper midfielders with Bersant Celina, Ward and Nydam the trio behind lone striker Sears.

Joe Garner, whose wife gave birth earlier today, was due to be on the bench but was a late drop out, although apparently due to injury. Aaron Drinan takes his place among the subs.

For Hull, Fraizer Campbell comes in for Abel Hernandez, Michael Hector for Ondrei Mazuch and in goal Allan McGregor for David Marshall.

Town: Bialkowski, Spence, Carter-Vickers, Chambers (c), Knudsen, Gleeson, Hyam, Ward, Nydam, Celina, Sears. Subs: M Crowe, Webster, Waghorn, Drinan, Connolly, Kenlock, Morris.

Hull City: McGregor, Irvine, Hector, Larsson, Bowen, Dawson (c), Henriksen, Clark, Campbell, Aina, Wilson. Subs: Marshall, Grosocki, Meyler, Dicko, Keane, Tomori, MacDonald. Referee: Jeremy Simpson (Lancashire).

So basically, Ward and Sears on the wings? never gonna work, and how did Spence get his place? Did he win a raffle prize? He was awful at United, I'm happy Nydam and Hyam is starting, Hyam actually did well last game and Nydam needs to adapt to the game in the championship so finally a youngster is starting.

How is Webster not starting over Chambers?

Why drop Chambers? He was Ok Saturday, if anything Webster seemed a bit shaky

I have a feeling this is the manager telling everyone to Foxtrot Oscar.

blue75... That would be favouritism. He is the team captain as well though, which is where the mistake was really made because that's what lead to him playing as fullback for god knows how long regardless of how utterly awful he was in that position.

I'm more curious about the fact that our top goal scorer has been dropped though... just when we are desperate for a goal.

When I checked the odds I wondered why Hull were such big favourites, and then I saw Mick's team selection. I only hope I'm proved wrong. Why drop Waghorn?

I-O Hull. Now there's a surprise given this extremely attack minded ITFC team. Tanking on its way Mick is taking the Mick.

Hyam and nydam are league 1 at best. The line up is a disgrace. No goals again tonight unless Waghorn and Garner come on early. Glad I am not there, but there won't be many left in the ground after 70 minutes anyway. Ipswich 0 Hull ?.

It's working.....
1-0 down and after 22 minutes Hull have had 6 shots and 4 on target

O Town have had a shot but off target

Adeblueboy, too generous, no league 1 club would take Hyam, he's not an asset in any facet of the game except career threatening challenges for which he usually gets booked. This selection says to me that MM is setting up Sears and Celina to fail to prove us wrong, I think he's totally lost it.

Our doubts assail us and make us fail.
And we miss the goal we could achieve only by fear not to reach.

2-0 Hull. Aw sh?t. Good players, good team. False position in league. Needed a defensive line up to cope. They were the better team and deserved the win. Script writer for Micks post match interview.

Tonight is all about Mick McCarthy proving he is always right.

Sticks a reserve side out and told to play football. Guess what, it isn't going to work. Especially after 5 years of hoofing.

Still Mick its all about you. Its your team, club and reputation. And in your tiny mind you're still always right.

There we go six changes a few of MM so called favourites dropped and we are 0-2 down. Just goes to show what will happen if he goes.

I really wish I could see an easy answer but all I can see is us in div one or two if he goes.

Sounds like Kipling though probably not. Really relevant lines.

Peteswindon...there's better in the modern football world than MM. We are currently in the dark ages....we need to be free again. As a stay away 40yr supporter...can take no more.

ITFCsince73 I agree we need to change, but until we have a chairman willing to spend I just see much more doom and gloom.

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

To Mick- spot on for the first line, pity about the second!
