Town misfit Amir Karic was in the Slovenian side which lost 3-1 to Spain in Gwangju this afternoon. Slovenia will now hope to get results in their next two games against Paraguay and South Africa.

Raul and Juan Carlos Valeron put Spain ahead but Slovenian sub Sebastian Cimirotic hit back with nine minutes left on the clock.

However, hopes of a Slovenian comeback were scuppered when Spain were give a controversial penalty in the 87th minute after Morientes went down on the edge of the area. Fernando Hierro had little trouble from the spot.

Karic played a largely defensive role on the left-hand side as Spain took the majority of the game to the Eastern European side. However, he did put in a memorable first half cross for Zahovic which he headed well wide.
