Holland on Future
Holland on Future

Town skipper Matt Holland says he is not going to even think about his future for the next few weeks at least. Holland returned from the World Cup earlier in the week and was greeted by 100,000 people at a Dublin reception.

The 28-year-old told the club site: "It seems that I have been linked with a number of clubs and as I have said before, it was always inevitable that after our relegation at Ipswich, many of the players would become involved in transfer stories.

"I don't intend to even think about my future yet. After over 11 months of football without a break, I want to go away with my family and forget about everything.

"I'm not due back at the club until well in to July and as it stands, that is what I will be doing. Whatever happens in the future, happens."

The Town skipper has become a big hero in Ireland after his performances at the World Cup, and shirts with his name emblazoned across the back were the second best sellers after Damian Duff's.

The Blues captain, who says that overall he enjoyed the experience, counts his goal against Cameroon as his favourite moment of the World Cup, while his penalty miss against Spain is still painful; he doesn't plan to watch the Spanish take on South Korea in the quarter-finals.

He says the miss was compounded by a post-match call: "I was whisked off for a drugs test straight after the game and ended up sitting in a room with Richard Dunne and two of the Spanish players and all around us were TV screens showing the penalties again. Just what I needed!"

While he has been away Holland has been linked with moves to innumerable clubs (see The Rumour Mill for full details: http://www.twtd.co.uk/rumourmill).

class="storytext">The Town skipper has been valued at up to £10 million in the papers while Bournemouth will receive 25% of any profit Town make on the £800,000 paid to the Dean Court club in 1997.
