Town Confirm Walters Return
Thursday, 30th Aug 2018 17:05

Town have confirmed the re-signing of former skipper Jon Walters on loan from Burnley. Yesterday, TWTD was first to reveal that the Blues were closing in on the addition of the Republic of Ireland international.

The 34-year-old, who was previously at Portman Road between January 2007 and August 2010, will be with Town until January.

Walters, who will wear the number 39 shirt, initially joined the Blues from Chester City and made 132 starts and 14 sub appearances, scoring 31 goals before moving on to Stoke for £2.75 million after falling out with then-manager Roy Keane.

After a successful seven-year spell with the Potters, Walters moved on to Burnley for £3 million a year ago but the Birkenhead-born frontman has made only two starts - one in the Carabao Cup and one in the Europa League - and four sub appearances for the Clarets.

Walters is likely to go straight into the squad for Sunday's home derby against Norwich City.

The forward has previously been on the winning side in an East Anglian derby, the 2-1 home win in April 2008 but missed the 3-2 victory a year later, the last time the Blues beat their greatest rivals.

Yes, as others have said, welcome back Jon. We are very pleased that you have selected ITFC once more and OMG a winner against Norwich on Sunday will be the perfect way to open your account. We all love you anyway but there's always room for even more love!

Just what the team/squad needs. Good luck old friend!

I won't be two up front, It'll be 2 attacking wide men and a striker. He'll be one of the three and can play in any of those positions. More strikers doesn't equal more goals, our system is delivering excellent football and a lot of chances, we just need a few finishes and cut out the errors at the back.

Not too sure what to make of this. Certainly has experience and can hold the ball up which for all his efforts, Harrison hasn't seemed capable of doing. Think Hurst is showing himself to be at least going about things the right way. Feel more hopeful but fear the Norwich game may come too soon. Defender needed too. McAuley mentioned so how about him and Delaney? Most ex-blues have been mentioned after all!

Spot on fat_Boy_Tim, a poster that understands systems. Those calling for the last century 4.4.2 need to evolve, maybe we could get Gates and Co back (lol)

Great to have him back & hope he's here longer than just a few months.

Just don't want to hear Hurst come out tomorrow and say “he's about 6 weeks away from getting upto the fitness levels we require”...I want a team of footballers not marathon runners.

Had to chuckle at that one Finidi! It's funny but a surprising number of African footballers over the years have looked much older than they apparently are/were. Think Roger Milla for example, he looked like he was in his mid forties, but played like he was in his mid twenties! For those of you not old enough to know who i'm talking about, RM was the star of a very decent Cameroon side of the late eighties/start of the nineties, often from the bench!
