Woolfenden to Join Swindon on Loan
Friday, 31st Aug 2018 18:02

Central defender Luke Woolfenden is set to join League Two Swindon Town on a season-long loan, TWTD understands.

As reported earlier, manager Paul Hurst hinted on Wednesday that the 19-year-old, who returned to action with the U23s on Monday following a knee injury, several weeks earlier than had been anticipated, would be allowed to move out on loan if he recruited another central defender.

“I have to say, I think credit to the medical staff and also credit to the player himself, he made a speedier recovery than we first thought or feared,” Hurst said.

“He’s one that we’ve had a quite a bit of interest in on the loan front but as we stand, I’m sure you’d all agree, it would be foolish to allow someone like that out if we haven’t got another defender in the building with us.

“But I think it was pleasing to see him out there, especially when we thought it might have been another three weeks or so.

“He’s a young lad, hopefully he he doesn’t get injured anyway, but if he does he’s shown that he’s quite a quick healer.”

Woolfenden, who spent most of last season on loan at Bromley, has made two senior starts and three sub appearances for the Blues.

As with the loan deals involving Josh Emmanuel and Ben Morris, Town will be able to cut the move short in January.

The lad came on against Blackburn and the ENTIRE team looked better and more self assured Chambers was more confident and he marked Danny Graham a proven championship striker out of the game and he didn't give away stupid freekicks nor did he make dangerous hospital passes .... He should be starting .... I hope the loan is to get him ready for the 2nd half of the season to play along side our skipper in the run in

I am 100% behind Hurst and welcome the changes but this one annoys me a little bit as he looked like he could handle the step up but have to trust the gaffer on this I guess.

Disappointed that 3 of our own products have gone out on loan and we are loaning youngsters from other teams in.

He has looked good in all the games i have seen him play in. Come the end of the season, wherever we finish how does it help when we give half the team back?

Not a happy chap tonight, better win on Sunday!

Absolutely bonkers. Not sure if PH knows a good player when he sees one.

think I'm out of my league sometimes, with all the posts from people that know so much.
