Collins Training With Town
Tuesday, 4th Sep 2018 11:54

TWTD understands former West Ham central defender James Collins is at Town today and is training with the Blues. Collins, 35, is a free agent having left the Hammers at the end of last season.

TWTD reported that Collins was among the defenders Town were considering signing last week but at the time it was understood he would be rejoining West Ham with whom he had been training, but ultimately no deal was forthcoming.

Blues manager Paul Hurst confirmed his interest in the former Wales international following Sunday’s derby against Norwich City.

“We spoke to him last week, we’re due to have another conversation, so I wouldn’t particularly rule anything out,” Hurst said.

“He’s certainly not just coming in to sign paperwork. But it is something we will look at.”

We understand that as things stand no deal has been agreed with Collins currently just joining the squad for training.

The Newport-born centre-half began his career at Cardiff City before moving on to West Ham, Aston Villa and then back to the Hammers, where he has spent the last six seasons.

The 6ft 2in tall centre-half has won 51 full caps with Wales and has scored three international goals.

Chambers is a great captain. His football is simple meaning he doesn't create a lot. There are not many magicians available at CB. Collins is not a miracle worker but will bring in needed competition. Won't happen as we will faff about again

Very good player with bags of experience, and, (if the move goes through) gives us four good CB options. It will be very interesting indeed to see which two of Chambers, Nsiala, Pennington and Collins become the first choice CB pairing. I thought Pennington gave a good account of himself on Sunday.

Don't know why Chambers and Spence get so much stick.

Bert: I'm glad you took my post in the light-hearted way it was meant. (I in no way doubt your physical capabilities, incidentally.) In fact, it was only because I recognised "fairness and balance in the written word" in an earlier post of yours that I made those comments. It takes all sorts on TWTD!

Don't write off Chambers he is a very good captain. it maybe that Hurst wants play 3 at the back and move Nsiala to RB? I believe thats his other position..

The Nsiala sending off/Donacien only on loan and if he cant get his passport status sorted he will be unavailable/Pennington on loan and could get recalled/Chambers wholehearted but nearing end of career
/Wolfenden not rated ready by PH/ and the risk of injuries ay any time...THATS WHY WE NEED COVER !!!!!

Just sent this story to my West Ham - supporting son-in-law, and received this reply:

"James Collins, also known as the ginger Pele!

I love him. He's a solid defender. Such a shame he didn't get a new contract or a testimonial. I think he'd be amazing for you guys."

These young lads are fine and will obviously get better with time but we need EXPERIENCE now, look at our position in the table!!

Dont rule out 3 at the back which could work with the pacey fellas we now have.

Anybody seen Adeyami-----does he still exist?!

Another name to learn, was listening to the game against Norwich, most of the time I did not know who was our players or theirs, as there has been so many changers in the Ipswich Town line up

Your right. Collins will end up at a former club if fit.
