Town Confirm Hurst and Doig Depart
Thursday, 25th Oct 2018 17:03

Town have confirmed that manager Paul Hurst has been sacked, owner Marcus Evans believing that it “is in the best interests of the club” to appoint a new boss with ex-Norwich manager Paul Lambert set to be his successor. Assistant manager Chris Doig, fitness coach Nathan Winder and physio Chris Skitt have also left the Blues, while academy head of coaching and development Bryan Klug will take caretaker charge for Saturday’s game at Millwall.

“I have decided that it is in the best interests of the football club that we appoint a new manager to take us forward,” Evans told the club site.

“I would like to thank Paul and Chris for their efforts and we wish them well for the future but after 14 matches we find ourselves bottom of the Championship and with only one win this season.

“Paul’s arrival here in the summer was welcomed by us all and we worked tirelessly to support him fully with his plans for player recruitment, training methodology and backroom staff.

“But unfortunately those plans haven’t turned into positive results, which is why I have had to take this decision today.

“The core of our club remains strong and it is that which has helped us create a highly competitive team in the Championship over the last five or six years.

“This group of experienced players along with the additions we made to the squad this summer of younger developing talent, plus the ongoing progression of players from our academy means the new manager will have a solid group to work with and build for the future.

“I am determined that we develop a team to play attractive and exciting football. We have a stable and talented coaching team in place at Ipswich and Bryan Klug will step up and take temporary charge of the first team for Saturday’s trip to Millwall.

“I am actively looking to appoint a new manager as soon as possible with experience, who will embrace the long term vision we all have for the club and who can deliver the success that every Ipswich Town supporter craves.”

I am assuming MM and PH played Chambers every game because Chambers does great fist pumps! What's the reason they picked Skuse every game? Does he make a great cup of tea at half time?

Sad day but important day.
How the new boss will get results in the nect 2.5 months with these players is beyond me.
IMHO Huws needs to get fit asap. We need to recall all our loan players and let the new guy assess- we might be already down by January when he can bring in 2 forwards and a midfielder who can actually score a goal. Added to that he needs to show the door and be ruthless to the deadwood. Hurst will take Nolan and Nsala with him on his next job

"The core of our club remains strong.."???

Que?

Ohhhh are you perhaps referring to our youth and academy players?, i.e. the cream of whom instead of letting them grow their chest-hair here at ITFC around the 1st team, you keep shipping out or loaning out , and among which only an embarrassingly minuscule percent might ever get a fair chance in the 1st team ANYWAYS... especially under Muck as well as Hurst (and thus a for years Evans "stamp of approval" implementation of this dumbfounding strategy that just happens to additionally also be in utter conflict with your OWN sanctimonious sounding "5 Point Plan")!

Whatever, truth is nothing about this once proud & revered club is truly championship "strong" anymore imo!... including the once upon time quite awesome average attendance figures.
YOU yourself Evans aka the most football-clueless owner in the league, alongside the toe-curling lost list of either inept or fan-antagonistic & stylewise fan-deterring managers since Magilton, especially the latest 2, has combined with your own notorious tighta$$ness & over-willingness to always make and cash in on a quick buck (despite COMFORTABLY sitting on a net worth in the region of £ 800 mill), instead of trying your utmost to hold on to certain key players, have set this club back FOR YEARS to come, in a variety of ways, last but least when it comes to sheer ability to compete...
...compete for much other than survival or at best yet another obscure mid-table finish that is!!!

EVANS OUT A.S.A.P.!

I have never been one to want to rush and sack managers, however as nice as this guy was it was a job to soon for him and he got a bit carried away with the technical side of it. On what I have seen he has been tactically not at the races with playing players out of position, and sticking with a plan that was negative and not working. He will work again and be much wiser for the experience, however a job such as this is not a training school as the stakes are so high. It does not surprise me he has gone before the end of October possibly due to contract arrangements that pave the way for a much lower level of compensation if he is released within a given timeframe, after all MC is about money!! And now for Lambert and of course us die hard fans would be twitchy about it, but put the Norwich connection to one side and lets have some experience and strong man management to take us to safety so we can start afresh next season. Finally lets put this on hold for 24 hours while we pay our respects to a real legend and fan of our beloved football club. Have a safe journey Beat you will always be remembered with the highest level of respect and love from all who had the privalidge to see you play and know you as a person RIP Big 6.

Feel slightly sorry for Hurst. I still think he should've had until Christmas to try and prove himself and turn the season around. The squad is still getting to know each other and I still feel whilst he should never have been given a massive budget, he should've had more to spend. Will the squad come good? I'm not sure. Is Lambert going to save this season? He has a decent enough pedigree with plenty of experience of the Championship. Norwich aside he's a good manager. What needs to happen now is that those players that are in form (not sure how many are in any sort of form, Edwards?) need to play along with some of the younger players and try and build up some confidence. A new beginning! COYB!
