Lambert Tight-Lipped on Bree Move
Thursday, 31st Jan 2019 14:47

Town boss Paul Lambert kept his cards close to his chest regarding deadline day additions to his squad at his lunchtime press conference with the Blues trying to sign Aston Villa right-back James Bree on loan before this evening’s 11pm cut-off.

Asked about Bree and an earlier link with Norwich’s Ivo Pinto, which we understand isn’t a move the Blues are looking at, Lambert responded: “We’re looking at a couple of things, as I said before, because of the loan system we’re up to our limit [five are allowed in a matchday squad], I’ve got to watch what happens on that front.

“These moments, you’re never quite sure, there’s always something which pops up where it might be interesting for us.

“But I’ll only do it if, one, I think somebody wants to be here, and two, it’s right for the football club.”

Is right-back still a priority? “It was a position we identified when we came in and obviously you can’t do anything in November or December. If one comes in then it’ll be beneficial.”

According to reports, Bree’s recruitment could see Matthew Pennington move on to Derby on loan, keeping the number of players on loan at Town at five.

Reflecting more widely on his January business and whether he has covered all the areas he hoped to, Lambert added: “You’re never quite satisfied with anything really, you always want to have more. As I said before, we doing everything we can to fix this situation really quickly. Long term things will be a little bit different, but short term we have to try and fix it.”

Not much doubt about PL and his thoroughly professional root and branch review of everything ITFC !
ME seems to be right on board this train ,and though it might still have to take a branch line for a while ,the direction of travel is good !
