Lambert Wouldn't Stand in Nash's Way
Friday, 30th Aug 2019 10:24

Paul Lambert says he won’t stand in Gerard Nash’s way if the Blues’ U23s manager is offered the boss’s job at St Patrick’s Athletic back in his native Dublin.

Yesterday, news broke that Nash, 33, was in talks with St Pat’s and is seen as the front runner for the role.

“I spoke to Nashy the other day, he came in and told me what was going on,” Lambert said when asked about the situation as it stands.

“At this moment in time there’s nothing happening. Something might happen, but at this moment, Nashy came in and spoke to me about it and told me exactly where it was which is what it is at this moment, but there’s nothing to report.”

Is he unsurprised by the interest given Nash’s success with the U23s, who topped their division last season? “I don’t know. There’s a million and one coaches/managers that want jobs and you need a bit of luck to get an opportunity because sometimes the opportunity doesn’t come in that often.

“He’s a young guy finding his feet in how to run things and how to go about things. Listen, if somebody wants you and the club are willing to come and try and get you, then I’ll never stand in anybody’s way, that’s for sure.

“But it’s good for him, if it doesn’t happen it’s good for him that somebody wants you, that’s the beauty of it.”

Nash was previously in contention for the manager’s job at St Pat’s when it last came up in October last year.

Lambert would have no opportunity to stand in his way even if he did want to.
