Legend Beattie Died a Year Ago Today Monday, 16th Sep 2019 10:02 Today marks a year since Blues legend Kevin Beattie, widely viewed as the club’s greatest ever player, died aged 64. On Saturday, Blue Action paid tribute to man known as The Beat with a banner ahead of the game against Doncaster, while the club recently renamed the Legends bar Beattie’s in his honour. The funds have been raised and work has started on a statue which will stand a little way along Portman Road from his mentor Sir Bobby Robson once it is unveiled next spring. Beattie remained a familiar face at Town long after his playing days - he was the legend-in-residence on BBC Radio Suffolk’s Life’s a Pitch which is broadcast live from the FanZone until his death - and is much missed by all at Portman Road.
