Tractor Girls Exit Plate After Stevenage Defeat
Monday, 21st Oct 2019 11:20

Ipswich Town Women exited the FA Women's National League Plate after a 3-2 home defeat to Stevenage at the Goldstar Ground, Felixstowe on Sunday afternoon.

Louise Godden gave the visitors, who also knocked the Tractor Girls out of the competition last season, the lead but Zoe Cossey levelled and then Natasha Thomas put the much-changed Blues in front at half-time.

But Tamsyn Sibanda restored parity after the break and Erin Pope netted a freekick in the 89th minute of the game to win the tie for the Hertfordshire side.

“To be leading and to lose the game having had a 2-1 lead is really disappointing,” manager Joe Sheehan said afterwards.

“We had large spells in control without really ever threatening as we’d like. It was more scrappy than we’d like as well.

“We weren’t clinical enough, I didn’t think we created enough either and deeper on the pitch we didn’t keep the ball as well as we’d like and we were punished for that.”

The Tractor Girls are in action again next Sunday when they face Norwich City in the third qualifying round of the Women’s FA Cup.

Town: Jackson, Dunn (Rossiter 89), Billson (Cooper 59), Stretch, Hubbard, Wakefield, Crump (c), Abrehart, Welton (Pannifer 59), Cossey, Thomas. Unused: Clarke. Att: 117.
