Trio Could Win Caps
Thursday, 14th Nov 2019 09:58

Blues trio Alan Judge, Flynn Downes and Andre Dozzell could all add to their international caps later today.

Judge has not been named in the the Republic of Ireland starting line-up for this evening’s friendly against a New Zealand side featuring ex-Blues defender Tommy Smith in Dublin but will be looking to come off the bench and win his ninth full cap at some stage (Sky Sports Football from 7.40pm).

Speaking earlier in the week, the 31-year-old said he was hoping to impress manager Mick McCarthy against the All Whites in order to win a place in the team playing Denmark in a crucial Euro 2020 qualifier on Monday, also in Dublin.

“It gives everyone a chance to impress,” he said. “You never know, you might change the gaffer's mind for Monday.”

Midfield duo Downes and Dozzell are with the England U20s, who are in Portugal for an U20 Elite League fixture.

Downes, 20, has previously won four U20s caps, suffering a hip injury in his last outing against the Czech Republic at Peterborough last month, while Dozzell, also 20, has picked up seven.

The U20s are in action again on Tuesday when they face Iceland's U21s at Wycombe Wanderers’ Adams Park.

"I always look forward to some time with England," Dozzell told the club site.

"We have two difficult tests against Portugal and Iceland but hopefully I can get some more games under my belt.

"It's great to go with Flynn too. I room with him so I guess I can't get enough of him!"
