Warnock on Town Links
Tuesday, 31st Dec 2019 12:12

Veteran boss Neil Warnock has been quizzed on the recent whispers that he could be interested in the Town manager’s job should it become vacant.

Rumours that Warnock would be a target should the Blues look for a new boss have been circulating since current incumbent Paul Lambert called his position into question at his press conference following the 0-0 Boxing Day draw with Gillingham at Portman Road.

However, it’s understood owner Marcus Evans has no plans to make a change at present and earlier today the club put out a statement from general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill to that effect.

Warnock, who knows Evans, has been spoken to about taking over at Town in the past, most notably after Roy Keane’s departure in 2012.

The 71-year-old, who plans to retire at the end of the season, is currently out of work having left Cardiff by mutual consent just over a month ago.

Asked about his plans on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT this morning Warnock said: “I always said that after Christmas I’d do something, I’m not bothered what level it is, I’ll do something to the end of the season, if it’s the right one, if it’s something that whets my appetite. She [wife Sharon] says I can go to the end of the season.”

Quizzed on links with the Town job, he added: “I think I get linked to everything, all managers do, don’t they? I think that’s how it is at the minute, they’re all talk and everything and you just don’t know.

“But, like I say, if the right thing comes up, I’m not really bothered what it is, I just want to enjoy myself to the end of the season really.”

algarvefan, not going up is massive for us. Think about the players we will lose. The very thing we need is indeed short term gain!

He would 100% get this squad promoted.. something I can't say about lambert... HOWEVER.. not interested in a 6 month manager

It's not the manager we need changing, it's the majority of the 1st team squad.
Zero leadership, and zero fight to go with it.
Klopp would struggle with what's currently available.
2 games back the team consisted of 50% Hurst signings.
Says it all.
Lambos had 1 L1 window.
He now needs a big one.
Warnock has only had success with well funded clubs.
Which we ain't. And half our squad needs a overhaul.

Very, very tempting! Just the rocket up the jacksy that the squad needs to reboot it for the second-half of the season. If we lose tomorrow Evans should pick up the phone.

Why does anyone take this seriously. It's more twaddle with media guys having nothing better to do at this time of the year. TWTD is duty bound to mention it, that's all. If there's a vacancy then we really do have something to worry about.

Been saying on here for the past week get Warnock in as for his style of football can't be no worse than it is now we might even see some chances created. Its nearly January and Lambert still doesn't know his strongest team Warnock won't be afraid to make big decisions and get rid of the dead wood. As for George Burley he's been out of the game for too long remember he was the one who put us into huge debt by making ridiculous signings who did not want to play for the club. This is not a popularity contest its about getting the best man in for the job and if we are winning the style of football won't matter most fans just want to see a winning team.

Warnock a better bet for promotion imo. Quality of football? Not seeing much quality at the moment frankly, or all season apart from a few decent spells in some games. I'm sure sure that PL commands the respect of the players, and. If his team talks are similar to his rambling interviews, repeating himself all the time, no wonder we are strugggling!

Obvious twaddle. Evans is not going to get rid of PL at this stage. I'd like PL to come out and say that as far as he is concerned, he is building on a 3-4 year time scale. He has already more or less said this is the plan, and I would still back him to carry that out; but he really doesn't help himself in his meetings with the media. I would like him to clearly outline the details of how he sees our development over that time period. What is the aim if we fail to go up this season? He has talked about youth development (good!), but then he muddies the waters with vague talk about leaving. Clear, unambiguous communication, please, PL. You have done so much in re-building the bonds with the supporters and the community. It would be tragic if that were to crumble. Short-term solutions are not the answer.

Seriously, this is how low we've fallen? The most anti-football anti-referee blame everyone else but me individual British football has produced in the last 30 years. No rut or drop in form calls for this mercenary to be anywhere near our club.

Warnock holds the record for 8 promotions he took Cardiff from the bottom of the Championship to the premier league and saved Rotherham from relegation remember they beat us one nil at Portman road and didn't give us a kick . Don't think he would fit in at Portman road wrong colour eyes.

Warnock until the end of the season what are you muppets on! What's the point in getting a manager in til end of the season. Stick to you day jobs and support the team including lambert

he would have been a good bet a few years ago, but a lot of people didnt/dont like him . He is gobby ,controversial, but he has a good track record , wouldnt pussy foot around under performing players and would tell it as it is. Not popular but think we missed a trick way back .
