Blues Chasing Preston Defender
Sunday, 12th Jan 2020 10:57

Town, Rotherham and the Chicago Fire are reportedly in a battle to sign Preston defender Josh Earl.

According to The Sun on Sunday, the Blues, Millers and Fire are all after the 21-year-old, who recently ended a spell on loan at Bolton.

TWTD understands there is something in the reported Town interest with the Blues discussing a loan deal.

Southport-born Earl came through the youth system at Preston, where he is contracted to 2021, and has made 31 senior starts and six sub appearances for the Lilywhites without scoring.

Earl, who had a spell on loan in non-league with Lancaster City in 2017, joined Bolton on loan in the summer but picked up an ankle injury on the opening day which sidelined him until November.

In total 6ft 4in tall Earl made 10 starts and one sub appearance for the Trotters, initially playing at left-back before latterly moving to centre-half. Bolton manager Keith Hill opted not to renew his loan last week.

It’s well documented that Town are looking to sign another central defender on loan following Toto Nsiala’s loan to, coincidentally, Bolton on Friday and Earl would appear to be top of the Blues' wish list.

Stephen Gibson OBE is a British entrepreneur, politician and the chairman/owner of Middlesbrough Football Club. In 2012, he was 451st on the Sunday Times Rich List, with an estimated worth of £165 million.
Some of the Boro signings under Gibson in recent years:
Britt Assombalonga 15.39 million.
Jordan Rhodes 10.71 million.
Martin Braithwaite £10.17m.
Marten de Roon £9.45m.
Adama Traoré £7.43m.
Aden Flint £7.20m.
Stewart Downing £7.11m.
George Saville £7.02m.
Ashley Fletcher £6.57m.
Rudy Gestede £6.39m.
Patrick Bamford £6.21m.

How many players has Evans signed for even one half or one quarter of that amount in recent years? And yet Evans is meant to be worth 4 or 5 times more than Gibson! So the ambition and passion between the two is a mile off. Now some of those signings weren't the most prudent and we know several Championship clubs are 1 or 2 more reckless transfers away from administration. But when you look at those sort of numbers is it any wonder we couldn't compete in the Championship last season under Evans!? We were a mile away from those figures. Boro aren't having the greatest of seasons but I think they've won their last 4 league games and beat West Brom away recently and drew against Spurs in the FA Cup. Can you imagine us winning 4 consecutive league games in the Championship under Evans with our existing squad, or drawing against Spurs in the 3rd round of the FA Cup? We didn't even reach the 3rd Round of the FA Cup this year for the first time in how long? Another sad indictment of just how far we've fallen under Evans watch!

Way too may Negative Nancy's on this site. I just pray the playing group don't read the vitriol from the haters on here.

If you can't say something nice perhaps keep it to yourself for a change instead of bringing down the people around you. Yes, everyone is entitled to an opinion but not at the expense of others' well-being.

Midastouch, a very poor comparison. Boro had an 11 year continuous spell in the premier league followed by a further season in 2016. I don't know the numbers attached to that but it would be a vast sum. MFC are self sufficient, ITFC are not.

@ Saxonblue74, it's easy to make other comparisons than Boro. Bristol City, Derby and so on.

Probs. He didnt get into the bolton team because he was injured until november. By which time they'd got their own players in the team. Why dont u read the story properly before posting negative rubbish.
