Blues Take Up One-Year Option on Clements
Thursday, 27th Feb 2020 16:08

Town have taken up the one-year option on young left-back Bailey Clements’s contract.

The 19-year-old’s terms were due to be up at the end of June but the Blues had the option to keep the defender, who has been at his hometown club since he was seven, for an additional year.

Clements, who is currently sidelined by an injury, has made one senior appearance, in the Carabao Cup defeat at Luton in August.

Andre Dozzell and Armando Dobra are among the other young players whose contracts are up this summer but with the Blues having an option to keep them for a further year.

General manager of football operations Lee O'Neill told TWTD last month that there are "ongoing conversations" with those players regarding their contractual situations.

Why the hell have they activated it for him it not for the more talented trio of Dozzell Dobra and Bishop . Surely they are not going to be allowed to leave for nothing.......what an aresole of a club have we become

Could easily be our first choice left sided wing back next season with Garbutt and Earl departing and Kenlock proving he’s not up to the task. Young side next season I’m sure.

tractorboybig added 16:59 - Feb 27
he is on a low wage so it makes business sense to keep him.

Radlett_blue added 17:31 - Feb 27
Clements struggled in his one senior game at Luton. Hope he's improved over the season. He has to be better than Kenlock to be worth keeping.

Another young full back going to waste because they are not trusted by Lamberk following the likes of Emmanuel, Kenlock, Cotter.

According to PL there will be know contract talks until the end of the season.IF we don’t get promoted then players on loan return to there respective clubs and we sell all our assets. What a nightmare.I just pray we can kickstart the rest of this season.

I’ve only seen him play once. That was against Luton. He was absolutely terrible and that’s being kind. Let’s hope that was a blip.

Roystevens - nothing like making a ridiculous comment without all the facts hey

Wish the lad well but in my opinion lacks a yard of pace to make it at professional level. As for Dozzell what has he done to deserve a extended contract .

guentchev added 19:12 - Feb 27
He was clearly not ready to play in the first team....hence that performance against Luton....

We can't judge a player based on one performance...

Sadly...it makes sense to discuss most contracts at the end of the season. Looks increasingly likely that we aren't going up (even if we somehow finish 6th don't think this squad is good enough to win the play-offs). Some of the youngsters will inevitably have to go....yes. No choice as we will be squeezed again financially. Players like Dozzell, Bishop, Dobra etc may well have to exit.

All part of the Marcus Evans downgrade. We’ll struggle in League 1 next season and the happy clappy mob Will still say he “saved” our club (not true) that we were in administration (not true) that there were no alternative investors (not true) that he’s losing millions every season (not true) and that he cares where ITFC are in the league (not true).

MickMillsTash added 20:04 - Feb 27
If I was Evans I would question giving Bishop a new contract - even if he is on 'only' 4K/week that's 1 million over 5 years he's had and he's been injured for all of it.

TBT added 20:13 - Feb 27
If you were Evans you would leave such decisions to the manager as you’re a businessman fleecing a club that you don’t care about.

Can see where this season and next season are heading. Why do us supporters bother,we get let down every season, promises, hope and let downs. Why can't we get a run together like some of the other teams around us. Would be nice to see a run of wins instead of the usual win 2,draw 3 lose many.

Dozzells_Bobblehat added 20:26 - Feb 27
TBTs comments - not true

Saxonblue74 added 20:37 - Feb 27
TBT, enlighten me please. Who are the alternative investors and how is Evans not losing millions every year? These facts you have could just be our saviour and the future of ITFC! Please share! Oh, and please don't confuse my unwillingness to deal with speculation over fact with being an Evans sympathiser!

Hope Clements is not stupid enough to read and digest some of these posts. I’d advise all of the staff at our club to ignore most of it. Especially mine, as I’m a sad frustrated fan whose been following the mighty Ipswich for 45 years

.......... martin587 - the nightmare has been made much worse with that ridiculous 5 year contract being issued. No one will convince me that Lambert cares as much about results now, as he did before signing that contract.
Quite simply he doesn’t need to, he’ll continue laughing all the way to the Bank, whatever happens.
Nothing short of a crazy situation, as everyone should by now be able to see he will never get the best out of this, or whatever squad he has.

budgieplucker added 22:46 - Feb 27
I certainly wouldn’t renew any contracts until we know where we are next year. If players are serious about wanting to play for this club either in this league or championship then they need to prove it over the next 11 matches. Ok one or two of them might not get the opportunity to play but the under 24 players we can recoup some money on them.

We have to have some movement to allow the new youngsters leaving the academy to progress. Plus we have Lankester, Nydam and El Miz to try and bring onto the regular first team scene.

RevAdrian added 07:22 - Feb 28
I think it is hard to discern exactly what Evans plan is but there has been little or no evidence (unless you think the ridiculous so called interviews are credible) for the past five years or more that the direction for the club is likely to be anything but effective destruction. Let's hope I am wrong.
