Town Take Up Option on Dozzell's Contract
Tuesday, 5th May 2020 11:46

TWTD understands Town have taken up the one-year option on midfielder Andre Dozzell’s contract.

Dozzell’s terms were up this summer but the deal he signed in May 2017 included an option for the club to keep him for a further season.

The academy product, who turned 21 on Saturday, has been in and out of the side this season making 13 starts and two sub appearances.

Last summer TWTD revealed that Norwich City had made a £3 million approach to the Blues for the England U20 international but were unwilling to meet Town’s asking price, understood to be £5 million. Talks regarding a new Blues contract subsequently took place but with no agreement reached.

In addition to Dozzell, eight other players also have contracts which are up this summer with the club also having options to keep them for another season: Cole Skuse, Gwion Edwards, Will Keane, Jordan Roberts, Danny Rowe, Harry Wright, Armando Dobra and Brett McGavin.

As previously reported, Dobra has all but agreed a new three-year contract which will be signed when he returns to Portman Road, while it seems certain that Roberts, who has spent the second half of the season on loan at Gillingham, will move on.

We're saying he hasn't taken his chance or has vision and can pick a pass but sadly we're in the third tier of English football and looks lightweight, if he can't make it at this level considering he had game time under MM in the Championship then he might not be up to the quality we thought he could be...certainly not to his dad's level.

Have my doubts he'll make it here and who knows elsewhere.

He's still young...who's to say hitting 21 now might be the making of him.
Been looked on as one of the top 20 English players throughout international age groups.
Now needs to perform.

Im with the majority on this one he's got a very good cv but needs to start doing it on the pitch. He's represented England at various levels but now he's 21 he's not going to be good enough so he wont have that ego to fall back on. The club is not in a position to do players special favours by giving them a run of 8to 10 games in the team they have to earn the right and he's had plenty of opportunities. We should have taken the 3 million might not be worth that now.

We are where we are and these players are part responsible. Maybe better for them as well as us

Very mixed views on Dozzell which I share. Has talent but doesn't use it enough. Certainly doesn't appear to have any fight in him.
The type of player that reminds me of McGoldrick who will perform much better with much better players around him. I just don't think we will have the players that will bring the best out of him.
All things considered I would have let him go.
