EFL Trophy Now Papa John's Trophy
Wednesday, 28th Oct 2020 15:52

The EFL Trophy will be known as the Papa John’s Trophy with immediate effect after a sponsorship deal was signed with the pizza takeaway company.

The arrangement will run until the end of the 2022/23 season with Papa John’s also the official pizza of the EFL.

EFL chief commercial officer Ben Wright said: “The EFL is delighted to welcome Papa John’s as title sponsor of the EFL Trophy and a new addition to the League’s portfolio of partners.

“As we continue to navigate through the challenging times that the coronavirus pandemic presents, it is testament to the growing appeal of the EFL that we are able to attract new partners and invest the sponsorship fee into the competition through payments to clubs, which is important during this difficult period.

“We look forward to working with Papa John’s over the next three years to build on the success of the competition and create Papa John’s Trophy moments for us all to celebrate.”

Papa John’s UK marketing director Giles Codd added: “We’re very excited to be named title sponsors of the EFL Trophy. It’s a real honour to be able to support EFL clubs in what is undoubtedly a tough time for everyone involved.

“It’s always been our goal to serve the best ingredients for the most memorable occasions so we’re incredibly proud to be supporting such a great football competition.”

The Blues face Crawley Town in their final group game at the Broadfield Stadium on Tuesday 10th November (KO 7pm).

A Town victory would secure a place in the knockout stage, while a draw either with or without a bonus point for winning a penalty shootout could be enough for the Blues depending on the result in the Gillingham-Arsenal U21s fixture.

John Schnatter, the owner of Papa John's is a piece cr*p. He's made it quite clear where he stands on racial inequity and the BLM protests. He wanted NFL players to stop kneeling as it was hurting his sales. I won't give his company a dime. It's a shame it's now in England tainting football. So yeah, he falls in line with our racist idiot president. Birds of a feather and all that... and no, half the country did not vote for Trump. He lost the popular vote.

And Europablue, there is plenty wrong with loving Trump. Unless of course, you like your world leaders to be lying, thieving, draft-dodging, tax dodging, homophobic, sexist, racist, uneducated, science-denying, climate-change-denying, pro-Christian a$$holes.

So yeah, I think the name change is a joke and has too much gravitas associated with it.

Sounds like you drank the Koolaid.
It's not ok to be pro-Christian now?!?
The BLM movement is a bit of a sham based on half truths and the kneeling thing is ridiculous. A black man killed by a white man is not automatically a racist attack. Just like your other accusations, every one needs evidence to back it up. It's quite scary that everyone just has to conform or be tarred with the same brush. The NBA is all for kneeling, but they are also happy to comply with Chinese censorship.
Trump is not a great man and as much as he amuses me, I don't love him. Still, basic rule of law requires everyone to be judged fairly based on the facts and not opinions. Just don't pretend you are better than anyone else.
The main point about Papa John's is that John doesn't run the company anymore. Companies would be better run as businesses and not social outreach agencies as they are never consistent and apply unwarranted influence.

This company was hardly squeaky clean about it's eat out to help out returns to Government. It also has, as others have pointed out, a lack of racial awareness. How they passed a due diligence test remains a mystery. I hope the media just calls it the EFL Trophy and leaves it at that.

Osbourne one nil. What are you on about? Our shirt sponsors havent bailed out. They have simply put the name of their designated charity on the front of our shirts, instead of their company logo.

Maybe fans can watch the games in the stadium as long as they get a pizza delivered to their seat.
