Burley No to Winter Break
Burley No to Winter Break
Saturday, 7th Sep 2002 10:14

Town manager George Burley says that he is against a winter break. The idea has been kicking around for a while, however, it now looks less likely after Premier League chief Richard Scudamore all but ruled it out a month or so ago.

The Town boss says "I don't see any benefits of having three or four weeks off for a winter break.

"It is not something I would like and I don't believe the fans would like it either. It is an idea that has come from abroad but I'm against it.

"It was tried for one season in Scotland and didn't work and I don't think it would work here either.

"Players want to play and supporters want to see games Saturday after Saturday, even in January."

Town had their own unplanned winter break last season which led to disastrous consequences; a fine run of wins being halted and the resumption heralding a string of defeats.
